The Irrigation / Storage Manager has significant autonomy and requires attention to detail, 'get-it-done' attitude, superior interpersonal skills and agricultural experience. The position is accountable for all aspects of center pivot irrigation, storage and shipping of the crop and supporting the production of over 450 acres of seed potatoes. Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe primary responsibility of this position is to efficiently manage the irrigation operations to ensure excellent customer and vendor satisfaction so the site is able to meet financial goals and objectives by: Irrigation Responsibilities and DutiesMaintain all center pivot irrigation systems to ensure proper and timely watering is occurringAssist with planting and harvesting potato cropsInstall and maintain remote monitoring/control systems on all pivotsAnalyze and maintain all sprinkler packagesApply fertilizers and chemicals with pivot injectorsCoordinate watering schedules with Farm Manager and AgronomistMaintain contact with Agronomist and Farm Manager to assure proper crop health is maintained throughout the entire crop cycleProvide timely and accurate crop status reports to the Farm Manager and Agronomist Storage Responsibilities and DutiesMaintain potato storage facility in order to obtain highest possible quality and lowest amount of shrink on crop productionMonitor all aspects of mechanical and computer control panelsAnalyze storage control data and make decisions to maximize crop quantity and quality with help of Farm Manager and Agronomist Year-long Responsibilities and DutiesMaintain contact with outside groups including other farms, irrigation companies and associated industriesProvide, in conjunction with the Farm Manager, yearly and long-range planning to meet cost, quality, and service objectivesManage various staff during storage harvestBe willing to help other departments (load-out and shop) when not working on irrigation planning and storage maintenance during winter months Required Position QualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalentMinimum of one year experience in the irrigation as well as minimum of one year working with storage of cropsDemonstrated strong work-ethic, outstanding leadership ability and exceptional interpersonal skillsSelf-directed individual who leads projects to identify and implement solutions with team inputAdaptability to changing situations and have the ability to perform multiple tasks with multiple prioritiesProficient in the use of Windows based computer programs (Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and a general aptitude with software systemsExcellent written and oral communication skills, including ability to train and work with operational personnel on the farmSuperior organizational and project management skillsAbility to acquire and hold a valid US driver s license and successfully pass vehicle insurance verificationEligible to work unrestricted in the U.S. without company sponsorshipAbility to comprehend, read, write and communicate proficiently in English and interact with all levels of the organization. Preferred Position QualificationsExperience in potato crop production and strong electrical knowledgeBachelors of Science degree in an Ag related fieldBilingual in English/Spanish5+ years experience managing irrigation programs over a large geographic region as well as ability to travel up to 30% of work time CompensationSalary will be commensurate with experience and skills.
