ISE Horticulture Intern
This posting is for (1) fall internship assisting the horticulturalist with landscape maintenance of the campus arboretum through planting, weeding, invasive species removal, and greenhouse management. The positions will also complete curatorial tasks for the arboretum collection of trees and shrubs including pruning, mulching, watering and labeling. The positions will also provide assistance with areas related to the sustainable agriculture program. This position will be in effect from 08/22-10/12/2018.Duties include:Maintenance of campus farm food production areas including planting, mulching, weeding, watering, harvesting and preparations/support for weekly marketsMaintenance of ornamental arboretum and display gardens around horticulture building including planting, pruning, mulching, weeding and wateringComposting duties include pick-up of compostable waste (pre-consumer food scraps), maintenance of composting area, and application of finished compost to bedsSupport of crop and ornamental propagation in hoop-house and greenhouse facilities as neededRecord keeping and reporting, and supply/tool organization and maintenanceOther related plant care and production duties as assignedRequired QualificationMust have completed at least nine (9) CLC credit hoursAttach an availability schedule with applicationHigh school diploma or its equivalentAbility to work as part of a team with project supervisors and other staffAbility to work independentlyAbility to work during the weekday business hoursAbility to lift 40 pounds regularly and engage in bending, lifting and physical work for extended periods of timeAbility to work indoors and outdoors in all weather and temperature conditionsDesired QualificationsStudent in pursuit of horticulture, agriculture, plant science or closely related fieldPlant knowledge including field identification and cultural requirementsFamiliarity with basic propagation methods including both seed and vegetative strategiesPast experience in greenhouse and/or nursery production/propagation work settingWillingness to assist with teaching demonstrations and guest presentationsCapable of using MS Office software (Word, Excel, Power Point) for reporting and record keepingPay Rate$10.00Apply for this job.
