Primary Location: United States (US) – Illinois (US-IL) – Champaign Function: Product EngineeringTitle: JDTIC-PT Student Robotics – Champaign, IL – 50624 Your ResponsibilitiesAs a John Deere Part Time Student – Robotics Engineer you will primarily focus on defining how robots behave in mowing applications by guiding software & hardware development and implementation for one of Deere's robotic platforms.You will be responsible for the creation and deployment of behaviors from concept through implementation and testing.This includes researching state of the art approaches, early prototyping, integration into the software stack, and debugging on the hardware using mathematical models and algorithms, image processing, vehicle control, as well as other areas in robotic systems.You will work in a fun, friendly, and fast paced environment consisting of team members with various backgrounds and engineering disciples.Projects are operated in the Agile environment and one will need to be able to handle multiple projects at any given time.You will also be required to present your findings in onsite or offsite meetings and translate your findings/data into understandable documents. What It TakesExperience in classification & tracking or sensor fusion algorithms. ?Experience with vision systems/SLAM in robotics. ?Experience in vehicle dynamics and robotic control. ?Experience with planning and perception algorithms. ?Experience with performance engineering techniques. ?Strong C++, Java, or Python in Window/MAC or Linux environment. ?Strong hardware & software fundamentals (iteration, data structure, object oriented programming, bits and bytes)Ideally you will have a degree or equivalent work experience in one the following: PhD or MS in a STEM related field or equivalent experience.Must be registered as a full-time student at a local universityMust be able to commute to the work location on a daily basisGraduation date of May 2020 or later Cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above16 – 20 hours/week during the academic year35 – 40 hours/week during the summer semester A strong candidate will also haveOther areas of experience or interest that will help us place you on the right team include: ?Experience using Robotic Operations System (ROS). ?Proficient experience utilizing various sensor hardware and software. ?Proficient in Matlab, or Simulink ?Strong social and verbal/written/presentational skills.
