The position is focused on ensuring accurate, timely data generation in support of the quality, product and process development, and industrial applications labs, including ceramic honeycomb and thermal application. Responsible for the calibration, upkeep, and maintenance of lab and pilot plant equipment. Responsibility and accountability includes, but is not limited to:? Perform a wide variety of the scientific work required in the research, development and applications of new and improved products and processes for kaolin.? Work independently with quality, technical service, site, and product and process development personnel to establish characterization required and then report back results and conclusions from the work.? Independently analyze and perform work on assigned projects, usually complex in nature. Plan the methods necessary for their completion and conduct necessary literature searches to collect information for projects of technical significance.? Assemble, test, operate, and troubleshoot a variety of complex equipment. This may include, but it not limited to; analytical testing equipment, lab processing equipment, pilot plant equipment, and/or physical properties testing equipment.? Complete projects and write comprehensive reports and evaluations on data obtained from experimentation and, if necessary, orally present observations, conclusions and recommendations to persons at different levels in the organization, and to customers.? As necessary, carry out continuing experimental work for projects at manufacturing sites, customer locations, and/or other non-laboratory locations, ensuring the collection and reporting of all relevant data.? Prepare and/or modify procedures both for experimental work and associated with laboratory administration, e.g. ISO, Safety, etc.? Train operators/technicians in new experimental and administrative procedures.? Provide support to EVI/KO for large scale sample preparation by using process expertise in crude kaolin make down, centrifuge operation, screening, magnetic separation, selective flocculation, bleaching, filtration, spray drying, grinding/delaminating and pulverizing as well as calcining and surface treatment. Additionally, run laboratory tests such as solids, brightness, particle size, aspect ratio, viscosity. Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You?Basic Qualifications: ? Bachelor?s Degree in a Scientific or Engineering discipline and 3+ years practical laboratory experience.Preferred Qualifications: ? 1+ year experience in practical laboratory experience in kaolin processing.? Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques (including kaolin physical characterization methods, kaolin process equipment, analytical methods such as mineral identification, SEM, EDAX, XRF, mineral processing) is beneficial.? Proficient in utilizing computer technology (particularly Excel, Word and Power Point and Microsoft Outlook).? Ability to organize time and be able to perform multiple routine and non-routine tasks in multiple functional areas, and to fully and professionally document (formal reports) and communicate key project work, in the form of presentations (verbal and written).? Ability to adapt and be flexible to changing priorities.? Keen observation, attention to detail, and fully document and communicate project work.? Ability to prepare laboratory documents (Safety, ISO, Standard Test Procedures, etc.)?
