Laboratory Technician ? Contract Position
We are currently seeking a highly motivated contractual, entry level laboratory technician to conduct contracted research on probiotic bacterial cultures for the dietary supplement and food industries. The individual would apply microbiology, molecular biology, and genomic approaches towards processing and screening of new bacterial strains for commercialization. This contracted position will work within the Genomics & Microbiome Science R&D team and cross-functionally with technical teams involved in downstream research, applications and manufacturing. Primary responsibilities will include literature searches, method optimization, and using custom molecular and microbiological methods on a variety of strains. The individual will also be expected to function independently and report technical research to project teams with guidance of team members. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Perform literature searches and compile results for probiotic organisms.Optimize genomic DNA extraction procedures using automated and manual techniques.Communicate research within the GEM team and during stakeholder presentations.Develop work plans in conjunction with GEM group manager and teammates.Conduct research on bacterial strains in the presence of team mates and/or independently.Perform other typical laboratory tasks (media making, dish washing, etc.) as necessary.Qualifications:Trained in Microbiology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with an emphasis in bacterial cultivation and molecular techniques.Position requires a min of 2 yrs experience with BSc/MSc designation.Demonstrated microbiological skills; aseptic technique, culture media preparation, cell enumeration, microscopy.Basic knowledge and experience with molecular biology techniques such as PCR is desirable.Have the right to work in the U.S. without restriction Compliance with all company policies is required. Other functions as required (non-essential functions).Responsible for adherence to all quality systems including, ISO 9002 and Food Safety, with an understanding of DuPont Quality Policy and procedures. SCOPE OF POSITION The contractor will be a member of the Madison-based R&D group, specifically the Genomics & Microbiome Science group. In this role, they will be expected to conduct research as part of multifunctional project teams with the guidance of the GEM team leader and teammates, based on specific business goals as set by the Health & Protection leadership. As needed, the individual will be expected to help with a variety of tasks as suitable to the role. Direction will come from the GEM team leader and teammates. Research activities and responsibilities will be integrated into the overall global Technology as part of Health & Protection within Nutrition and Health. WORK CONDITIONS Operates in an office and laboratory environment. Part-time, 20-30 hr per week. Set schedule preferred.Apply for this job.
