Lead Product Manager
This role has an important communication bridge responsibility across all Ball FloraPlant (BFP) stakeholders. In particular, to work directly with Breeders, Product Managers, Production, Sales and Marketing teams. This role will participate closely and guide the selection of novel genetics into our Product Development program from our internal and external genetic sources. This position will work mainly with our US-Canada distributor (Ball Seed) and assist our International Partners. The key responsibility for this position will be to collaborate with the breeding team to create solutions for the Ball Horticultural customer and develop the most complete lineup of vegetative annuals in the industry.Job Description:Key Activities [Time Allocation]Breeder Support [40%]Define, improve and manage Minimum Trial Standards (MTS) for all crops considering all stakeholders (Breeders, Production, Product Development and Sales). Work closely with Breeders and Product Management Team to define goals and strategies for the continuous improvement of our product assortment. Focus efforts to be a source of market/customer information and contribute as a positive critical voice. Participate actively in the evaluation and selection of advanced candidate genetics. Manage all pre-commercial candidates considering all stakeholders. In addition, help assess our successful single and multi-species (Mix Master®) combo assortment and potential candidates.Operations and Sales Support [35%]Manage all Product Management operations with all partners interested in our new genetics. This responsibility will include customer visits to advanced trial sites, contract revision, genetic selections, Intellectual Property, etc. Prepare and organize all selection meetings with our Territory Managers and distributors (Product Selection and Product Confirmation meetings). In addition this position will be responsible for the administration of all new BFP genetics related to Product Development activities (Production, Advanced Grower Trials, Culture Trials, Sample Program, and Commercial candidate List).Assist our Sales team and partners in determining what candidates should go forward for introduction and what varieties should be dropped from our worldwide assortment (Global Production List). Also, work with our Marketing team to help develop content for our Social Media platform.Trials [25%]Responsible for the organization and data collection of all Advanced Grower Trials (taking pictures/videos, generate data) and Culture Trials. These trials will be set up in different locations in the United States and the Netherlands.Job Requirements:1. BS in horticulture (or related field) with 8+ years experience or MSc in horticulture with 5-7 years experience in Product Management, GH production, or other professional horticulture capacity.2. Plant and market knowledge in ornamental crops, knowledge in annual vegetative crops is preferable.3. The ability to diagnose root cause problems and then work with our R&D team to implement solutions.4. Proven ability to lead, manage, support and motivate colleagues as well as fostering a positive culture.5. Self-motivated with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities. Be able to work in a team or independently. Ability to focus and prioritize tasks in the best interest for BFP.6. Candidate should be able to stand and work with plants in field and greenhouse conditions for periods of time.7. Ability to travel approximately ~40% of the time (seasonal) to regional, national and international sites (Europe and Central America).8. Proficient computer knowledge of basic Microsoft tools (Word, Excel, Power Point, Skype, OneNote, OneDrive, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat Reader.
