Management Trainee (Food Group-Grand Forks, ND)

We currently have a Management Trainee-Raw Development position available at our Food Group location in Grand Forks, ND.
Summary This program is designed to educate participants on potato production, storage methods, variety development, and manufacturing processes within our Food Division and prepare you to take on a management role with Simplot. As a Management Trainee, you will learn about potato production, not by reading about it, but by participating in the actual processes involved in potato production at various commercial production areas throughout the US. The Management Trainee will participate in all phases necessary to produce high quality potatoes for the J.R. Simplot Food Group. This includes variety selection, trialing various agronomic principles, sampling techniques, planting, growing, harvesting, storage management, and data collection. You will receive periodic evaluations to monitor progress to ensure your understanding of the projects you participate in. The intent of this program is to give the Management Trainee the basic skill set of an employee in the Raw Departments. Trainees that excel in the program will be considered for future vacancies within the organization.
VARIETY DEVELOPMENT (50%) o Help to maintain variety information database o Coordinate spring seed movement to Midwest for planting o Support Variety Trial planting, growing and harvest operations o Coordinate small plot trial deliveries for evaluation at our Tech Center o Assist and coordinate with local Field Departs on commercial scale trials o Coordinate processing plant data (recovery, grade quality, etc.) on new varieties o Assist with trial plots data analysis and tracking o Assist with developing best agronomic and storage practices for new varieties
RAW DEVELOPMENT (20%) o Assist Agronomy Manager and Raw Procurement manager on special projects o Become knowledgeable on all aspects of potato attributes and processing
SUSTAINABILITY (10%) o Support Ag Sustainability Manager and local Field Depts
ADMINISTRATIVE (20%) o Support local Raw Manager on International Projects o Track and Compile Raw Divisional reports and statistics
Bachelor's degree (in Agronomy, Crop Science, Soils, Plant Pathology, Ag Business/Economics or related field). Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for meeting the minimum requirements.
Experience in Crop Production preferably in Potatoes but not mandatory.
Willingness to travel throughout the US and occasionally to Canada. Application Instructions
