ROLE PURPOSE The Manager Flowers Breeding has the following core responsibilities: To lead and guide a regional team of breeders and leaders towards the development of new Flower varieties, products or solutions as specified by the global Product Core Teams and business needs.
To manage a Flower Breeding portfolio of Seed and Cutting crops in accordance with financial and resource budgets.
Leads the operational planning and execution of greenhouse, field and laboratory trialing in North America (Gilroy, 3rd parties) in coordination with Co-Leads Breeding & Technology whilst applying best practices.ACCOUNTABILITIES
Lead a team of ornamental plant breeders, team of leaders in operations in Gilroy, CA to develop new products through innovation in breeding, technology, trialing, and aligned with strategic breeding goals.
Lead the planning and allocation of resources to execute trialing projects requested by the Crop Clusters, Technology team within agreed budgets and deadlines; trialing projects include operational breeding and research activities, growing, pollination, starter material and tissue culture initiation & maintenance
Responsible for staffing and developing operational capabilities in line with trialing requirements and service activities to Supply Chain and Marketing & Sales. Ensure right balance between in-house and outsourcing opportunities. Mentor and develop breeders and leaders to reach their maximum potential, encouraging creativity, teamwork, efficiency and a strong mindset to serve our customers.
Drive, develop and foster strong culture of continuous improvement focused on applying LEAN principles and healthy, safe and environmental friendly operations
Cooperate closely with the all stakeholders and support departments (i.e. CBRE). Establish productive working relationships, efficient and effective knowledge sharing and help drive operational efficiencies.
Responsible for the development and management of a focused portfolio of Flowers breeding projects in both seed and cutting propagated crops. This includes project and portfolio management, project planning and control, and allocation of resources.
Management of operational breeding programs (including 3rd party contractors) in North America to be realized within planning, specifications and budget. Ensure the best representation of local R&D team members at regional Product Launch Teams (PLT) and global Product Core Teams (PCT)
Represent Global R&D as standing member on the North American Leadership Team (NALT) to secure strong and effective collaboration between Global R&D and our Regional Sales, Marketing and Customer Solutions team and drive strong customer connection.
Align R&D trial activities with Regional Sales, Marketing and Customer Solutions teams to ensure alignment of trial priorities, operational efficiency, data collection, competitive benchmarking, and documentation of new crop culture information.
Pro-actively contribute to the development of strategic R&D plans in support of the Flowers business strategy and manage implementation.
Pro-actively contribute to the design and execution of the Flowers R&D strategy as member of the global Flowers R&D Leadership Team
Day-to-day people management of the breeding and operations department in Gilroy

Academic degree and/or higher vocational education in agriculture or horticulture, preferably in plant breeding crop protection, pathology, plant physiology and agronomy.
Knowledge and experience in plant sciences, preferably demonstrated knowledge of advanced plant breeding technologies as plant breeder Knowledge and experience of developing and leading successful teams and individuals
Knowledge and understanding of the Flowers markets and industry preferred
Good command of English. Dutch would be an asset.Critical Skills:
