Working at Nutrien will provide you an opportunity to help us Feed the Future, and grow your career.What you will do: Direct, plan, implement, promote, and control planning, mining and milling efforts in the development and implementation of business strategies in the areas of safety performance, environmental compliance, regulatory compliance, departmental employee productivity, equipment performance and technical standardsProvide day-to-day direction, supervision and coaching to the department management team to meet site objectives and goals. Monitor progress and direct activities to strengthen as neededEnsure adherence to all company policies as they apply to mine and mill production operations. Inspect areas of responsibility at regular intervals to appraise and monitor conditionsEnsure that the site incorporates “Best Practices”, in the production and reclamation processes, and ensure that these practices work toward continuous improvement. Assume responsibility for the production equipment, monitor that it is functioning as designed, and oversee development of modifications to the production equipment and production processes as requiredEnsure that departmental employees are following the developed Standard Operating Procedures or Work Processes, through workplace audits and data evaluation, and take corrective action as requiredEnsure that reserve characteristics and quantities are maintained and available for determining proactive production strategiesReview performance measures and key performance indicators and take appropriate actionsEnsure that a well defined history of all performance measures and key performance indicators is maintained and utilized to guide future production plansPrepare and submit operating budgets. Ensure control of spending against approved budgets. Continually pursue ways to improve on costsAnalyze spending and, in conjunction with department staff, investigate variances and define corrective actionsPrepare and submit capital budget requests to meet plan sustainability and long term growth potential. Continually pursue ways to optimize the use of capital and expense fundsMaintain plans for departmental succession. Provide assignments and training activities as necessary for employee growth and promotional opportunitiesMaintain communications and coordinate with peer level positions in the other Nutrien locations as appropriate to identify opportunities for improvement in systemsMaintain good communications with peers at White Springs to provide any assistance as needed and request assistance as needed, to insure that the departmental functions are aligned between all the site departmentsWhat you will bring: Strong strategic thinking ability, able to develop and execute long term plansCurrent with latest and emerging industry regulations and best practices relative to systems design and operationKnowledgeable of labor laws and collective bargaining requirements. Participate in negotiations, grievances or other contract related activities and discussionsKnowledge of SEC and Canadian reserve reporting guidelinesWell developed leadership skills in a professional environmentMust be capable of applying leadership and managerial skills to develop the organization and achieve efficiencies. Ability to think in overall broad terms and negotiate solutions with other related organizations, have the ability to influence those outside the direct organizationDrive change and continuous improvement performance throughout the organizationStrong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Lotus Notes. Skills with AutoCAD, SurvCAD, ArcCAD or equivalent are a plusBe familiar with all administrative requirements associated with managing a department such as budgeting processes and project managementAbility to handle complex, abstract problems from identification to resolutionHave strong communication skills, with tact and diplomacy while able to demonstrate superior active listening skillsPossess strong oral and written skillsEstablish relationships and address conflicts through appropriate resolution skills and techniquesCompetent working in cross-functional and multi-task environmentsAbility to prioritize and organize multiple tasks; provide timely responses and manage time appropriatelyBe able to work independently, set challenging goals and anticipate changes in work demandsUnderstand the mining production job responsibilities and functions within the larger organizationTake initiative and demonstrate a strong intellectual capacity with an attitude of continuous learningMust demonstrate highly developed problem solving skills and demonstrates technical competencies with the capacity for technical growthAre you a good match?
