Manager of Rail Operations and Logistics
CHS has an exciting opportunity in our Ag Business division. We are looking for a Manager of Rail Operations and Logistics to oversee all aspects of rail transportation needs for CHS? Agronomy business unit. You must have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as strong analytical and negotiation skills. You will:Develop, implement and execute rail logistical processes that supports and optimize the CHS business units supply chain. Manage all activities pertaining to empty car order fulfillment, empty and loaded logistics management and shipment monitoring. Make key decisions related to shipment prioritization and execution.Track and report fleet utilization metrics so CHS can ?right size? the railroad supplied and private rail car fleet, to ensure sufficient rail cars to supply product to our customers.Oversee and lead all rail rating activities including the negotiation of rail rates, rail rating of shipments, rate analysis and recommendations, updating and maintenance of rate database and communicating rate change announcements.Manage all rail billing documentation activities including the initiation and transmission of shipment documentation (bill of lading) to railroads effectively and efficiently and request diversions.Lead, coach and manage the rail logistical and rating staff for Agronomy. Work with and serve as a consultant/expert to rail and merchandising staff on various rail transportation situations and issues as well as keep management up to date on various logistical challenges and opportunities.Oversee demurrage, loss and damage claims and accessorial charges.Establish, build and maintain relationships key customer service, marketing and operational relationships with rail transportation suppliers.Work effectively in a team environment, to support the Director of Rail Services to support Rail Services, meeting the rail operational and logistics need for all business units within CHS as required.Cultivate and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.Basic Qualifications: (required)Bachelor?s degree in Business, Management, Economics, Logistics or related field7 plus years of experience to include:In depth knowledge of rail logistics, billing of lading, rail operations and/or rail ratesManaging large volumes with multiple and varied stakeholder needsRoute optimization and analysisContract and freight rate negotiationsFleet management and allocation3 plus years of supervisor, team-lead or managerial experienceProficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel), Rail CRM SystemsUnderstanding of IT system and business processesAble to travel up to 10%Preferred Qualifications: (desired)Experience with rail demurrageExperience in agriculture or energy commoditiesKnowledge of grain, fertilizer and/or energy commodity trading Knowledge of Ship Express Software or SAP Transportation moduleApply for this job.
