Materials Engineering Consultant – Corrosion Technology
The Global Actives Process Technology Expertise Center
(GAPTEC), which is a global organization within the Synthesis organization of
Manufacturing Technology at Corteva Agriscience? Agriculture
Division of DowDuPont?, is looking for a Materials Engineering
Consultant who specializes in Corrosion Technology. We have an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a
strong materials background and a deep experience in Corrosion Technology as
well as familiarity with materials characterization and failure analysis. The
successful candidate will have broad responsibilities for network leadership,
direct consulting, and laboratory and field corrosion testing efforts. The
candidate will support R&D, Pilot Plants, Third Party Manufacturing and
internal Manufacturing Plants. The role will work with other disciplines within
Corteva and with specific businesses to design and maintain robust and
cost-effective facilities. Technical and Administrative management of the
Corrosion Lab and Administrative supervision of the Failure Analysis and
Materials Characterization Lab, will be key responsibilities. The primary
responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
Providing world-class expertise on the use of alloys in
various process environments based on fundamental understanding of alloys
corrosion performance in various media.
Performing corrosion testing only when experience, open
source, and internal corrosion data is insufficient.
Developing safe, cost effective, and timely testing
protocols for challenging corrosive and/or flammable process chemistries
utilizing the full spectrum of techniques from simple dunk tests to state of the
art electrochemical testing, both in the field and laboratory environments.
Direct metallurgical investigations of materials that
are subject to environmentally induced degradation. The candidate will be
required to lead assessment of a broad range of attack from general and
localized corrosion mechanisms, environmental cracking and other low and high
temperature degradation mechanisms.
Providing detailed reports and guidance on test results
with clear translation into actionable recommendations.
Ownership of the Corporate Corrosion Database, including
assurance of compatibility with future software platform migrations, training of
users, and quality control of background test information and results.
Providing training to Engineering and Business resources
on various aspects of Corrosion and Materials Performance while co-leading the
Community of Practice for Materials within the Division.
Expert interpretation of ASTM, NACE and other
organizations standards/best practices on Testing Protocol, Materials
Specifications and alloy assessment.
Technical and administrative oversight of the Center?s
Corrosion Laboratory that is collocated with the Failure Analysis and Materials
Administrative oversight for both labs with emphasis on
lab safety requirements, and safe handling and disposal of chemicals used in
Lead and document Failure Analyses for corrosion related
failures when required.
Assist the Failure Analyst when needed in execution of
mechanical related Failure Analyses
Development and cross training of the Failure Analysis
and Corrosion Lab Technologists to allow for personal technical growth and
self-management by these key resources.
Provide selection and installation guidance for field
corrosion probes and interface with plant monitoring/control systems.
Evaluate and champion emerging corrosion monitoring
technologies that are applicable to across the company. Qualifications: PhD in Corrosion Science or Engineering or related field
with Graduate Work focused on corrosion. 5 years of industrial experience in
Strong background in electrochemical techniques for
Fundamental understanding of alloys and their
degradation behavior under various process conditions.
Experience with Corrosion Related Failure Mechanisms and
the lab evaluation techniques to assess and document them.
Knowledge and Familiarity with Materials
characterization and Failure Analysis
Demonstrated capability for lab and people management.
Background in equipment design, standards and practices
for process equipment used in polymer, chemical and film manufacturing
Strong time management and multitasking capabilities to
execute a range of program and consulting efforts simultaneously.
Strong Networking skills to effectively leverage other
corporate and external resources to provide timely cost effective solutions.
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently
without technical supervision to address business needs.
Computer and PC literate-Working knowledge of using
Email, the internet and Microsoft Office Products (e.g., Word, Excel,

This position reports to the GAPTEC Manager in Midland
The role can be excecuted from either Midland Michigan
or Indianapolis Indiana
Candidate must be willing to travel (5 to 20%) to
domestic or international plant sites – sometimes on short notice.
Demonstrated leadership skills through involvement in
technical societies, and multi-lingual capability are a definite
