Responsibilities: Competes daily care and preventative maintenance of all deck equipment/winches, pumps, mobile equipment, generators, blowers and any other mechanical equipment.Completes basic maintenance and service of equipment (including greasing and checking fluid levels) when necessary.Diagnoses problems and make repairs equipment.Dismantles and repairs heavy equipment including mobile cranes.Moves machinery and equipment as needed to check out and repair as needed.Repairs and lubricates machines, equipment and heavy equipment.Initiates repairs on mechanical engines and equipment used in stevedoring operations.Examines protective guards, loose bolts, and safety devices on equipment, and makes adjustments.Operates a variety of tools/equipment such as cutting torch, welder, forklift, hand tools, power tools (impact wrench, drills, etc) and electric meters. Acts a signalman for equipment operators and crane operators when necessary.Assists in deck operations when necessary.Assists in rig, ship, and barge mooring operations when necessary. Requirements: Must have a minimum of three years? experience maintaining heavy equipment such as track hoes, back hoes, front end loaders, etc.Must be able to read and write, understand, and communicate in English.
Ability to work in dark lighting and occasionally confined spaces.Able to perform maintenance on equipment using manuals or schematics.Able to use a variety of hand tools, mechanized tools, diagnostic testing.Able to understand to diesel and mechanical technology.Able to use basic math skills.
Must be able to follow directions.
Must be able to work rotating shift work. Be physically fit to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely.Must comply with all operational directives and company policies.Physical Demands: Employee will be required to adhere to large amounts of standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting. Will talk and hear to communicate. Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools. Must be able to walk up steps and climb (ladders, etc.). Navigate deckholes on rigs and crawl through bottom areas of the crew shack and other tight spaces. May be required to lift, carry and move up to 25lbs. Will use vision abilities to focus, see short and long distances, depth perception and peripheral vision. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
