Merchandiser – Logistics and Forage Services Specialist

The Merchandiser?s primary responsibility is to manage and develop freight provider, dairy, and cattle accounts in the Great Plains market geography.? This role will have primary responsibility for oversight of the logistics, marketing, and account management for cattle customers and forage suppliers.? Responsibilities include managing customer accounts trading all commodities to them, while leading our forage trading commodity position and execution.? The Merchandiser will trade feed ingredients including forages, execute freight, and build relationships with the customers in the high plains geography.? This will be accomplished by gaining a thorough understanding of all Accounting and Control reports and operational processes, taking responsibility to problem solve and implement changes per the direction of the Business Unit Manager.? The ideal candidate will possess the interest to gain a deep understanding of cattle operations from a feed management perspective.?
Execute and manage the logistics as needed in the group
Seek out and execute on backhaul freight opportunities
Establish and maintain freight providers
Develop and maintain the business relationships in the marketplace with a focus on cattle and forage customers
Publish a weekly report recapping commodity and ingredients prices
Develop deep relationships within the forage marketplace Minimum Qualifications
Interest in Feed Ingredients complex
Effective customer service skills and a positive style in business transactions
Ability to work with a wide variety of people
Ability to research and solve problems
Ability to perform in a high-stress and fast paced environment
Demonstrated understanding of grain markets, hedging and commodity flows
Knowledge of accounting, financial practices and procedures
Knowledge of the agricultural industry?s trading standards and procedures
Ability to use commercial travel, as needed.
Ability to travel up to 5 consecutive days Preferred Qualifications
Merchandising experience originating from farmers
Interest and experience with animal nutrition
Merchandising experience in the forage business
Deep understanding of cattle rations and value of forage in the ration ?
