Merchandiser II ? Mankato, MNThis is an exempt level position.
Position Summary: Reporting to the Commercial Manager of the location (or General Manager), this is an intermediate level position which is part of the merchandising team for the location. The position, acting as part of the team, will be primarily responsible for the procurement of soybeans and/or secondarily marketing of finished products to achieve optimum financial results. The position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with accounts, including the handling of logistics, accounting, and other customer related issues. As an intermediate member of the merchandising team, this position requires a higher level of strategic thinking, market knowledge and employee development than an entry-level position.KEY SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

Soybean procurement from commercials and farmers throughout trading area, on both a FOB and Delivered Basis Soybean byproduct sales throughout trading area, on both a FOB and Delivered basis primarily to feed mills throughout the U.S and Canada.Work with other ADM soybean plants to maximize arbitrage opportunities on byproduct sales.Actively builds strong relationships with customers and vendors. Is able to prepare & analyze basic profit & loss and other divisional month end reports Strategically seeks out new business that would profitably enhance company assets Builds & maintains relationships focusing on soybean/feed mill customers, including premium and volume accounts Understands customer requirements in order to collaborate and add value to both companies Is able to prepare & present reports to management detailing customer issues & opportunities Maintains a clear customer account list and provides detailed background information in files Handles all accounting related issues in a timely manner to ensure good customer service Participates in internal training sessions to learn more advance merchandising skills & systems Ensures the most cost efficient transportation and logistics Develops a good working knowledge of freight spreads and competitor activities Works to make sound market decisions in a competitive market while accepting the responsibility to defend them logically Develops a clear understanding of local, national, & world markets & trends Aggressively makes outbound phone calls to deliver and receive timely market information Price discovery and bid/offer maintenance to enhance risk management and pricing Understanding of margin calculations & their effect on commodity pricing Understands the value of ADM owned transportation (i.e. barges, trucks and railcars) & how to enhance value Develops a clear understanding and working knowledge of ADM information technology systems & ability to train others Understands and has strict adherence to corporate compliance policies & safety systems & programs Ensures that individual goals are aligned with company goalsConstantly works on individual personal development within the company Develops good understanding of local plant operations Works to attain positive, cooperative relationships with internal colleagues across divisions & responsibilities Effectively use communication channels for proper coordination within the office & other locations Portrays a positive image of the company and self when interacting with customers & colleagues Prepares and submits daily & ad hoc reports Helps in the development & training of new employees Is willing to work outside normal business hours including weekendsJob Requirements: University degree in agriculture or business (i.e. economics, finance, accounting), Supplemented with a minimum of three (3) years? experience in the marketing of commodities or related field in North America. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Demonstrated capacity to excel within high risk, fast-paced work environment.Proven ability to assess risk and exercise sound judgment in making decisions. Demonstrated negotiation and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the domestic & international trade. Proven ability to manage effectively within a team based work environment.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with end-users, suppliers, and internal customers. Computer competent, with demonstrated ability in the use of spreadsheet, database, and word processing software. Applications within a windows based operating environment. Individual must be committed to corporate ethics policies & safety programs. Agris experience a plus, 3-5 years? experience in the grain business or related field.
