Merchandisers at ADM are a critical component in our supply chain. Individuals in these roles have responsibility for the procurement of grain and oilseeds, and/or the marketing of finished goods to achieve optimum financial results. Merchandisers are asked to develop an understanding of local, national and global market trends, calculate business margins and their effect on commodity pricing, and manage local bids and offers among many other topics.
Additionally, in their roles, Merchandisers must balance risk management, customer relationships, transportation and logistics. To support the learning and development for Merchandising Interns, ADM has created a world class internship program. This twelve week internship will expose interns to all aspects of ADM?s businesses, provide the opportunity to interact with Commercial leadership teams and build a solid foundation of Merchandising terminology and concepts that will be critical for success in the role. Training occurs at our North American headquarters, river terminals, country elevators and processing plants in the Midwest.

Des Moines, IAADM ProcessingThis is a part time, Non Exempt positionJob Summary:The commodity merchandising internship will focus on trading commodities in cash markets, utilizing futures markets to manage financial risk, and coordinating effective supply chain management techniques to move commodities throughout the global marketplace. The commodity merchandising intern will work in a fast-paced environment, where much of a typical day is spent communicating with customers regarding current local and global market events and trends. The commodity merchandising intern also will have the opportunity to be responsible for cross-functional projects and to develop personal leadership skills.Job Qualifications:Education: Junior or above level student working toward Bachelor?s DegreeRequirements:-Excellent organizational and time management skills with an attention to detail and follow-up.-Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Word, Power Point, Excel)-Ability to make good independent decisions.-Ability to resolve routine problems independently.-Excellent interpersonal, leadership and communications skills are required, including creative problem-solving abilities when called for.-GPA of 2.8 or greater is preferredMain Duties, Responsibilities, and Functions:-Answer phones, buy grain and sell soybean meal and soy hull pellets-Gather purchase, sales and inventory data for the morning report.-Manage contract entry, purchase and sales contract applications, contract maintenance.-Review of past due grain contracts-Gain an introductory understanding of grain merchandisingRelocation assistance is not available with this position.
