The Microbials Discovery Team in San Diego, California is seeking an intern who will perform lab experiments and document results for the generation of data in support of microbial-based products for crop improvement. The role will encompass a broad range of microbiology and molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to, aseptic culturing and plating of microbial strains, cryopreservation, DNA extraction and preparation of strains for shipment. These methods would be encompassed in experiments designed to investigate plant-microbe interactions. The intern will be expected to work independently within a team environment. Ability to record experimental procedures and data in a clear, accurate manner is essential, along with effective verbal and written communication. An eagerness to learn and willingness to improve is a must. The BioAg Alliance was established by Monsanto and Novozymes, with a goal to discover, develop and sell microbial solutions that enable farmers worldwide to increase crop yields with less input. This position offers a fantastic opportunity for an individual to learn and grow in a dynamic research environment. Dates for this summer internship are May – August of 2019.Qualifications:Required: Enrolled at a university within the U.S. in pursuit of a B.S. in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or related field. Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA or above on a 4.0 scale.Must be returning to school to continue program of study upon completion of internship, or continuing on to pursue an advanced degree in the fall. Hands-on experience in a Microbiology or Molecular Biology Laboratory.Proficiency in aseptic technique.Ability to work independently within a team environment.
