Mine Environmental/Reclamation Specialist – #01FTL
The Mine Environmental/Reclamation Specialist provides ecological leadership for and in support of Monsanto???s mining activities ??? new mine permitting and development; current mine operations and reclamation; and legacy mine site remediation. In the area of new mine permitting and development, the environmental specialist will help to ensure that baseline conditions are properly captured and that mine development and future operations minimize environmental impacts. Current mine operations support will consist of formulation, implementation, and monitoring of reclamation solutions for all P4???s Soda Springs mine and plant sites along with assisting in the preparation of mine modification submittals that alter approved mining/mitigation/reclamation plans. Legacy site remediation includes site characterization and ecologically favorable site remediation and closure. The Mine Environmental/Reclamation Specialist works closely with representatives of various governmental agencies to ensure the acceptability of mineral exploration, development, operation, reclamation, and mitigation activities. They are a key spokesperson for Monsanto, interfacing with both internal and external groups on all mineral related ecological activities. They serve as an important resource to other groups within the Monsanto-Soda Springs organization on such subjects as surface resource use, wildlife enhancement, and beautification efforts. The Mine Environmentall Specialist has authority to recommend stipulations, modifications, and conditions in exploration, development, mining, reclamation, and remediation contracts. This position directs the activities of contractors conducting ecological services, including reclamation, research, and other mining related activities.The development of quality relationships is critical to success in this position. Frequent verbal communication with members of the mining team and contractors is required, as is contact with representatives of the federal and state agencies. Responsibilities:Selection, planting, propagation, and monitoring of tree, shrub, and other species to improve the quality and diversity of revegetation and mitigation consistent with requirements and limitations of protective synthetic and/or earthen overburden covers.Understanding, oversight, and control of necessary reclamation bonds. Documentation of reclamation work, studies of the natural environment, research related to reclamation, revegetation and mitigation on P4 controlled lands. Documentation may include reports, files, photos, maps, etc.Conducts and manages research on revegetation and wildlife habitat enhancement, especially for environmentally sensitive species. As such is a key contributor to development of habitat mitigation plans for a range of important wildlife species.Assists with soil, water, and vegetation sampling and analysis on an as needed or project related basis.Operation, maintenance, and purchase of reclamation equipment and supplies. General site security for minerals properties including fence construction and maintenance.Development and execution of Noxious Weed and Poisonous Plant Control Programs.Management and execution of P4 Lands for Wildlife Habitat Council Certification and operation.Is a key reviewer and commenter to NEPA documents to ensure robust baseline ecological characterization and key contributor to creation of environmentally focused mine and reclamation plans.Similar key contributor to CERCLA documents and designs associated with legacy mine restoration activitiesSupport on the ground ecological specific aspects of both mine development and remediation activities/projects.Development, execution, and monitoring of habitat and wetland mitigation associated with new mine permitting and development.Provide general environmental support, as needed, for all aspects of P4 mining related activities.Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:BS degree in Mine Reclamation or a related field. 2 years of relevant work experience or equivalent.Experience with reclamation techniques, equipment, and tools.Experience with vegetation and wildlife species.Experience with governmental rules and regulations.Written and verbal communication skills.Team and interpersonal skills.
