Native Trait Marker Lead – #01PE2
Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated individual to join the cross functional Genome and Marker Design (GMD) team in Molecular Breeding Technology (MBT) for our Biotech/API (Ag Productivity Innovations) organization. The Native Trait Marker Lead will lead a team of scientists and research associates responsible for applying cutting edge genetics, genomics and lab techniques for the detection of causative alleles and the design and deployment of trait-linked genetic markers to support Monsanto???s Breeding and Genome Design pipelines. This will be a strategic role for implementation of new and existing technologies for marker discovery across multiple crops including corn, soy, cotton, wheat, canola, sorghum and vegetables. The Native Trait Marker Lead will be responsible for establishing team vision and strategy for identification of causative alleles and variants, driving development and implementation of genomics workflows to address genomic diversity, and working across Technology to effectively and efficiently deploy genetic markers for strategic traits to enable product development. This lead position will interact collaboratively across Molecular Breeding Technology (MBT), Breeding and Data Science teams to execute on the vision. Setting team vision and strategy for identification of very tightly linked or causative variants to enable breeding and gene/genome editing pipelines ??? Developing strategies for scaling genetic association analyses for native traits ??? Leading multi-functional team of research scientists and associates responsible for designing experiments and conducting genetic analyses towards the deployment of trait-linked genetic markers for large-scale use in the high-throughput genotyping labs ??? Leading internal and external partnerships for development of efficient lab and analytics workflows for fine-mapping, marker validation and marker deployment ??? Partnering with Breeding, Biotechnology, Data Science, and R&D IT teams to develop streamlined processes for the exchange and integration of genomic and phenotypic data ??? Providing strategic direction for Genome and Marker Design (GMD) platform and Molecular Breeding Technology (MBT) program as an active participant on MBT???s extended leadership team (MBT ELT) ??? Ensuring objectives & deliverables are achieved in a timely manner ??? Providing written and oral presentations results, conclusions, and recommendations to peer and management groups within MBT, Breeding and Vegetable Breeding Technology organizations Qualifications:Required Education & Skills/Experience: ??? Minimum of a Master???s degree in Genetics, Genomics or related field of study ??? Minimum of five or more years of experience in genetic markers or closely related field ??? Strong experience with quantitative genetics, plant breeding and/or applied genetics ??? Experience with genotyping technologies, genome sequencing and/or genetic association analysis methods (either in industry or academia) ??? Experience using large complex data sets and complex database systems ??? Excellent communication skills, with the ability to summarize complex concepts to people outside the discipline Desired Education & Skills/Experience: ??? PhD in Genetics, Genomics or related field of study ??? Prior experience directly supervising a team ??? Three or more years leading cross-functional projects ??? Prior experience programming in R and/or programming in closely related language ??? Experience with data integration, automation and/or visualization Who is Monsanto?
