North America Breeding Pipeline Data Analytics Co-op – #01RX5
The production agriculture environment is more challenging today than ever before. In this climate, maximizing profit on every acre is more important than ever. Making that happen takes an integrated approach that includes top tier genetics, innovative traits, novel chemistries, data science, biological solutions, and data generated in real-world situations that allows each grower to pick the perfect solution for every acre on their farm. The North America Data Team works to drive innovation through the development of pipeline diagnostic and performance metrics and tools for row crops with the goal to increase our overall rate of genetic gain. Co-op candidates will have the opportunity to interact with many stakeholders within Monsanto which will include breeding, field operations, logistics, analytics, and IT. The candidate will conduct a project requiring them to learn our breeding processes, develop ideas, implement improvements and communicate results of the project. Project opportunities will focus on building an integrated data, analytics, metrics, and visualization system in supporting the development of smarter pipeline. The intern's experience will be supplemented with seminars, networking opportunities and career discussions, as well as trips to visit discovery labs and other functions. It is hoped that this experience will inform further career choices and provide an opportunity to develop skills. This co-op will take place in the Spring (January-June) of 2019. Qualifications:Required Skills/Experience:Current enrollment in a university within the U.S. pursuing a MS or PhD program in an analytical discipline ??? Plant Science, Statistics, Genetics, Data Science, Computer Science or a related field3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scaleDemonstrated data analytical skills and experience with R, Python, SQL, Java, C++ or other programming packages Detail and results-orientation with the ability to work independentlyBusiness aptitude, the ability to rapidly learn new problem domains and become conversant in the domain with subject matter expertsStrong organizational, interpersonal and proven problem-solving abilities Ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear, precise and actionable mannerMust be returning to school upon completion of co-op, to continue program of study or begin an advanced degree.
