Nucleic Acid Technologies Intern – #01RXK
Monsanto is a global agricultural company committed to providing products that enable farming around the world. We use genomic technologies to improve and advance our germplasms as well as our understanding of plant, insect and microbial biology. The Nucleic Acid Technologies Team in Chesterfield, MO is seeking an intern who will work with scientists that support a diverse set of next generation sequencing experiments related to the fields of genetics and genomics. The intern will conduct an approximate 3-month long project focused on providing data or solutions to a biological problem while working with next generation sequencing and/or automation approaches. The intern will work closely with scientists in the Nucleic Acid Technologies group to understand, design and execute experiments but will also collaborate with and have opportunities to network with related teams such as bioinformatics and computational biology, trait discovery and design, gene expression, genotyping, etc. Networking opportunities will also be made available such that the intern has a broad overview of career opportunities within R&D at Monsanto. The intern will be exposed to hands-on molecular biology laboratory techniques most likely related but not limited to nucleic acid purification, PCR, automation, and next-generation library preparations. The internship will take place Mid-May to Mid-August 2019.Qualifications:Required:Enrollment within a university in the US, pursuing a BS, MS or PhD degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology or related fieldCumulative GPA >3.0Demonstrated interest and coursework in subjects related to genetics or genomics or molecular biologyCuriosity and self-motivation to be exposed to and learn different molecular biology techniques and their applications.Proven ability to troubleshoot problemsAbility to work within a team-based environment of other scientistsAgility in the face of changing projects or demandsPreferred:Lab experience outside of coursework, preferably nucleic acid techniques such as DNA or RNA extraction and PCR.Experience with documentation of scientific results.Written and oral communication skills.Apply for this job.
