Position Purpose The Oils Merchant role will be responsible for managing the Specialty Oils positions within GEOS North America. These include sunflower oil, cottonseed oil, lard, tallow, and corn oil.
The incumbent will be responsible for market analysis, game plan development, and execution for each of the above mentioned liquid oils, in coordination with a variety of functions in GEOSNA, CSSTNA, and CASCNA. The incumbent will need to possess a solid merchandising foundation, and ability to understand freight spreads, supply and demand, quality risk, and counterparty risk; then translate and manage the impact to the overall GEOSNA supply chain, including taking cash positions and hedging execution relative to cash sales. The Oils Merchant is also responsible for ensuring timely, accurate contract entry and management, and calculating the monthly trading P&L estimates for the respective oils.
This role requires a high level of collaboration and communication with both internal and external stakeholders including customers, vendors, brokers, supply planners, strategic pricing, finance and our commercial teams.
Principal Accountabilities35% Strategy Development/Execution Capacity? Develop market and pricing insights into relevant markets (corn, cottonseed, and sunflower oils, lard, and tallow) as well as the broader oils markets (soy and palm). ? Create, maintain, and/or provide input for specialty oils S&D.? Leverage these insights to develop a market bias, create and execute game plans in coordination with various stakeholders.? Maximize profitability for GEOSNA while maintaining a consistent, well-run supply chain to ensure the commercial business runs smoothly.25% Analysis/Reporting/Data Management? Contract Management – Ensure contracts are entered promptly and accurately to enable other business processes, accurate position reporting, and position analysis.? Purchase and sales contracts are also to be reviewed on a weekly basis and past dues dealt with in a timely manner.? PnL Reporting ? Review new trade activity at least weekly. Support Trade Assistant in developing and reporting PnLs for Specialty oils to the broader GEOSNA trading team.? Gather, analyze, and report monthly PnL?s by product line to the trading team and coordinate with Financial Risk Management (FRM) team to resolve any discrepancies between SAP and Trader?s Estimate PnL. 20% Autonomy/Risk Management? Hedging Activities ? This role is responsible for executing daily hedge trades against cash sales. This requires quick and accurate execution of trades based on instructions from commercial and strategic pricing team members. ? The incumbent will also communicate daily trade activity to the Contract Operations team and investigate/resolve any discrepancies related to hedge execution.? Support GEOS on special projects, create and analyze a long/short for GEOSNA?s non-oil position exposure (i.e. freight, resins, natural gas, electricity, corrugates, etc.), and run ad-hoc analyses. 20% Customer Interface/Scope? Develop strong working relationships with external suppliers, counterparties, and brokers in the specialty oils industry to ensure consistent feedstock supply.? Manage effective communication with category managers, strategic pricing, sales, FP&A, A&F, and other business functions to support business processes and needs.? Coordinate with Supply Chain to ensure sufficient contracts match with forecasted needs and coordinate with Accounts Payable to investigate and resolve any price discrepancies with vendors.
