Position Description:This position leads the operations at the Multi Crop Research Facility at Hoogekraal, developing solutions for agriculture relating to seed and chemical products. The focus on row-crops, maize, sunflowers and soybeans.
Experimentation at the facility are conducted with a mindset of precision farming to obtain data for the commercialization of seed and chemical products, based on accurate repeatable data and include the following activities:Oversee maintenance and operation of facility buildings, laboratories, Fields, implement storage sheds, implements and equipment, fumigation, drying and dehumidifiersRemain current on new technology by participating in precision farming trendsMay serve on teams appropriate to cross project research initiatives with other facilities local and abroadManage and accountable for the daily center operations, ensuring on-time completions to meet research and business needs. Including coordinating breeding Nurseries and Yield trials across crops on station
trial lay-outs, crop-rotation, planting dates and field allocationEnsures that all operational practices are agronomically soundCoordinate the research center leadership team meetings by developing agendas, schedules, and ensuring appropriate follow-ups.Work with research center leadership team to proactively plan and address future needs.Review of operations and fixed projections and implement corrective actions to stay within budget. Monitor and manage capacity constraints, equipment problems, labor scheduling, etc. to ensure research goals are met.Ensure accountability for achieving performance results and demonstrating work behaviors that promote collaboration and teamwork in an effective manner while demonstrating and modeling the Core Values.
Qualifications Qualifications: Mastersor Bachelors Degree with equivalent experience in Agriculture related field5-7 years experience in Research is required; experience in the seed and/orchemical industry is preferred.Strongbackground in agronomyProvenability to make decisions, developing plans, and anticipating issues duringpeak season activitiesExcellentinterpersonal/communication skills are required for fostering teamwork,enhancing a good working environment, and effectively developing strong workingrelationships with a diverse group of people.Highworkload with long hours and weekend work during high season and may visitfield locations including overnight travel, sometimes for extended periodsAbilityto work outside in all kinds of weather, ability to stand/sit for extendedperiods
