The Operations Supervisor for the Testing Lab is responsible for leading personnel and daily laboratory activities in the seed health Quality lab in Woodland, CA.  They will be responsible for management and development of laboratory personnel, management of samples, training, data analysis and trending, lab supplies, and proper operation / maintenance of laboratory equipment and facility.  This role partners with the Operations Supervisor ??? Sample and Resource Management to ensure that stakeholder and customer seed health QC sample testing needs are met.  The incumbent will partner with other people leaders to understand business needs and match these with team expertise and development needs, helping to connect business and people development successfully.  Position Responsibilities:People Management: Responsible for selecting, setting direction, developing and assessing a talented team.  Promotes inclusion while developing employees to increase skills and facilitate professional growth.  Other related duties include:Ensure development of individuals and teamsPerform employee appraisals.  Recognize employee disciplinary problems, conflicts and effectively communicate to management.Manage conflict and identify problems to arrive at constructive solutions while maintaining positive  working relationships.  Carry out responsibilities in accordance with departmental guidelines, company policies and applicable laws.Interface with third party vendors to ensure that resources are qualified.Quality: Assures consistency, reliability and credibility of data and participates in standardization efforts across global laboratories.  Ensures benchmark strategies and procedures (i.e. proficiency testing, analyst training, daily controls) are followed and corrective measures are taken. Operational Excellence: Assures laboratory assays are completed according to established timelines.  Leads a team oriented environment and works on an individual basis with employees to meet personal targets. Develops and maintains customer networks and understands and meets evolving needs.  May work with external laboratories to ensure consistent quality of outside services.  Optimization/Innovation: Lead and provide an environment of optimizing and improving test methods to increase efficiency and reduce costs.  Work with technical leads to implement new methods as well as new technologies in the areas of automation and imaging.  Assess capacity needs regarding resources, equipment and laboratory footprint.  Participate in the laboratory capital improvement processes.  May lead regional optimization projects as needed.  Safety: Create a safe work environment that supports quality work and high productivity.  Meet all ESH training requirements and provide leadership and clear direction for employees.  Promote awareness, training and compliance to established ESH procedures. Compliance: Collaborate with the Quality & Risk Management Lead to ensure all work instructions and procedures are accurate and current.  Responsible for the laboratory???s quality management system (i.e. ISO, ISTA, NSHS, BIO-ETS) compliance.   Travel: Occasional domestic and regional travel is required.  International travel is infrequent but may occur. Qualifications:Minimum Qualifications:BS/BA in a biological, agricultural, or related fieldMinimum of 2 years people leadership experienceDemonstrated successful experience in developing people and teams, preferably in a laboratory or routine testing environment.Ability to partner with leadership across functions and sites to determine implications of business strategy and plan actions accordinglyDecision making, troubleshooting and problem solving skills. The ability to take action in solving problems while exhibiting judgment and a realistic understanding of relevant issues.Excellent communications skills including the capability to clearly present information through oral or written communications.Ability to work in a fast-paced global and multi-cultural environment.Knowledge of or interest in process improvement tools like Six Sigma and LEAN.Preferred Qualifications:Seed production and seed regulatory experience.Previous people leadership experience.Masters degreeExperience with Laboratory Automation Experience with the following computer programs is highly desirable:  Microsoft Excel (Data Analysis, Macros, etc), Business Objects, Access (database design and use), LIMS (Labware preferred), SAP.
