Optimization Scientist, R&D (stochastic optimization, numerical algorithms)
The Research and Development (R&D) group at Dupont Pioneer integrates cutting-edge science and technology to create superior products and innovative solutions for our customers. We are the world-leader in plant breeding and the use of new technologies to drive improvements in product performance. Our functional group is composed of extremely talented, quantitative individuals with backgrounds in plant and animal breeding, genomics and quantitative genetics, data science and predictive analytics, computer science and software engineering. We seek to further expand on our rich diversity of skills and experiences with the inclusion of an Optimization Scientist. The successful candidate will partner with domain experts and provide leadership in the application of optimization techniques to address a range of problems in our product development pipeline. Individuals who have a strong background in stochastic optimization, numerical algorithms, systems modeling and/or operations research are encouraged to apply. We are looking for an individual with an excellent understanding of optimization techniques, competent technical abilities, and a passion for utilizing their skills to solve problems in new scientific areas. This position will operate as part of a multi-disciplinary team and is critical to our next-generation R&D pipeline. Job Duties/Responsibilities: Provide scientific leadership in the application of optimization techniques to different problems in the product development pipeline.Work with domain and subject matter experts to translate critical research questions into algorithmic frameworks and solutions.Develop, customize and/or utilize high performance math algorithms/libraries to translate critical research questions into working code solutions that can be migrated into discovery and production systems.Conduct large scale in-silico experiments to explore optimal solutions and extract insights into critical scientific questions.Work collaboratively with a diverse team of scientists/software engineers to provide actionable solutions in the area of systems modeling and thinking.Communicate results and opportunities to audiences with a wide background of expertise and experiences.Uphold DuPont Core Values at all times. Qualifications: Educational Qualifications: Masters or PhD in mathematics, computer science, engineering or a related field and 2-4 years of relevant post-graduate work experience or demonstrated equivalent work experience required. Competencies & Experience Desired:Working knowledge of optimization techniques, especially in the areas of unconstrained optimization, greedy algorithms, dynamic and linear programming, network flows and genetic algorithms.
