Packaging Engineering Intern
OVERVIEW:The Packaging Engineer Intern will provide support to packaging development projects. Projects will consist of modifications of packaging for existing products as well as the packaging for new products. This includes identification, development and commercialization of new, improved, or cost-reduced packaging. The person in this position will act as a packaging resource for projects to which they are assigned and will be a self-starter and have the ability to work independently.Bunge is an Equal Opportunity Employer. Minorities/Women/Veterans/Disabled ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:• Accountable for assigned packaging projects to assure they meet manufacturing, quality, regulatory and customer expectations• Meet timelines, solve problems, manage expectations, and deliver to those expectations• Work as needed on cross-functional teams that may include representatives from functions such as procurement, quality, operations, regulatory affairs, research and development, industrial management, engineering, finance, consultants and/or outside vendors • Develop, interpret and issue technical packaging specifications• Packaging development of various materials, such as, paperboard, multi-wall paper, corrugated, rigid plastics, flexible films, etc.• Assist in developing ideas for savings, innovation, and quality improvements that are relevant to the business• Generate and execute test plans and reports, as needed• Create and maintain time lines as needed• Assist in the qualification of new package designs and materials • Assist in the completion of cost savings projects as related to package designs and materials• Complete evaluation of packages for conformance to project requirements. Evaluations can occur in warehouses, manufacturing sites or via laboratory studies• Be knowledgeable in appropriate packaging technology platforms• Maintain a working knowledge of the packaging principles and operating systems • Maintain awareness of technical trends and developments in the packaging industry• Pursuing a Bachelor degree in Packaging, Engineering, or related field required• Prior internship, co-op or work experience in packaging industry a plus• Working knowledge of packaging materials• Understanding of packaging material-equipment interaction• Strong ability to collaborate and maintain cross-functional partnerships, both internally and externally• Ability to effectively and appropriately communicate, both verbally and nonverbally• Analytical and logical problem solving skills• Basic understanding of food science and how food affects packaging• Basic understanding of GMPs, food safety, sanitary design, and equipment cleaning• Understanding of physical and structural package testing procedures• Ability to work independently or in a team environment• Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other related business software • Multi-lingual a plus; English required, Spanish preferred• Support and actively participate in safety programs and initiatives and follow all safe work practicesApply for this job.
