Iselin, NJWhere the Chemistry HappensThe Iselin site is the headquarters of the global Catalysts Division and includes our R&D facility for our Catalyst Research and Development organization (RCC). Our labs support existing customers through product testing and support, along with research and development of novel and exploratory technologies. The Catalyst Division of BASF provides fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) catalysts and additives used globally in refineries to produce gasoline and other high value hydrocarbon products. Evaluation of these catalysts in our R&D laboratory is an integral part of the business process and provides valuable data to our customers directly, to our Sales & Marketing Teams, and to our Researchers. As the Engineer III, you will direct the pilot scale catalyst evaluation team toward providing the highest quality data and service to our internal and external customers. This will be achieved by analyzing the data and continuously seeking quality improvement in test unit design, test methods and in the team?s execution of pilot plant testing. This will be a supervisory role where you will be accountable to maintain as well as to assure operational reliability of a pilot scale Circulation Riser Unit (CRU) used for Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) catalyst evaluation. You will work closely with the catalyst evaluation team manager to effectively manage the CRU testing resource in R&D to meet all the internal and external evaluation requests for catalysts, additives as well as other refined hydrocarbon products. .Formula for Success? Leveraging your formal education in chemical engineering (or a closely related field) combined with your previous experience in catalyst evaluation, you will identify CRU operational problems and provide technical solutions by observing and studying system functioning and by performance results. ? Utilizing your strong knowledge of pilot scale testing unit maintenance and safety requirements, you will be integrally involved in troubleshooting the unit operations and procedures to achieve optimal results. ? Using your proven interpersonal skills, you will work with R&D engineering, site EHS personnel and internal/external contractors to continuously improve consistency, reliability and safety of CRU operation. ? Relying on your strong knowledge of operating, troubleshooting and designing lab or pilot scale catalyst testing apparatus, you will work with R&D project leaders and FCC technology specialists to define the scope and set the schedule of CRU testing projects, provide detailed analysis of the testing results, and advise capability and limitation of CRU operation for various testing needs.? Prior experience in catalyst testing and in materials science including physical or chemical characterization would be a plus as you will establish statistical reliability of catalyst test methods by using appropriate statistical analysis and then ensure that once established the reliability does not drift. You will use the standard techniques of statistical process control to maintain a high standard of CRU performance. ? Your ability to lead an operation team and supervise multiple technicians will be key as you develop a cohesive team that helps the company achieve its strategic objectives. You will accomplish staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.?
