Pipeline Line Locator Technician
CHS has an exciting opportunity within our Pipeline and Terminals department located in Western North Dakota.
We are looking for a Line Locator Technician who will play an important role in maintaining the integrity and safety of CHS?s pipeline systems.
You will be responsible for right-of-way (ROW) surveillance and protection.
You will perform line locates, manage and supervise 3rd party crossing and encroachments, ROW ground surveillance and ROW inspections.
You must be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are essential. Fieldwork will be in Western North Dakota and operate remotely out of the CHS Petroleum Terminal in Minot, N.D.
Desired candidate will live within the field territory. You will:Locate buried pipeline facilities and manage multiple line locate requests setting priorities and routes based off electronic locate submitted through the 811 System.Establish, build and maintain relationships with landowners, 3rd party contractors and other pipeline employees.Make and receive telephone calls regarding line locates and schedule meeting time with landowners and 3rd party contractors.Facilitate all line locate documentation and follow ups communicating unresolved issues to supervisor with proposed solution.Manage and supervise 3rd party encroachments and/or crossings.Complete encroachment/crossing forms, grant crossing or encroachment approval, communicate and get approval on variances, communicate with 3rd party regarding crossing requirements and status.Conduct right-of-way surveillance by monitoring right-of-way from ground and responding to aerial patrol reports.Monitor right-of-way conditions that could impact pipeline, i.e. sink holes, ground movement, washouts, etc.Provide right-of-way maintenance including pipeline markers, aerial markers, vegetation clearing, above ground facility inspections, painting, as time allows. Repair of pipeline coating if damaged upon inspection.Represent CHS at land development/planning meetings, public Damage Prevention meetings and emergency response meetings.Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.Travel and work extended hours as needed to meet business demands and emergency response.Perform other duties needed or assigned. Basic Qualifications: (required)High school diploma or GED and one (1) year of related experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience.Valid North Dakota Driver?s License.Knowledge of operation and maintenance of electronic line locating equipment.Knowledge of reading and interpreting construction and engineering plans.Knowledge of general industry construction practices.Ability to work inside and outside in all weather conditions.Skill in operating computer software and data entry. Preferred Qualifications: (desired)Knowledge of highway traffic control standards.Knowledge of basic surveying methods, practices and procedures.Knowledge of pipeline systems and operations.Knowledge of pipeline coating and cathodic protection.Knowledge of buried utility construction practicesSkill in researching land and plat information.Skill in operating field GPS equipment.Ability to solve complex problems associated with locating buried utilities.
