The Plant Pathology position will develop and improve key bioassays to support biopesticide research. Job description – Essential duties and responsibilities Serve as project leader for Plant Pathology, and supervise and mentor team members.Play an important role in discovering and developing new products that can be used as environmentally-friendly fungicides.Develop and manage bioassays for testing biopesticide candidate technologies efficacy to control fungal and bacterial pathogens causing plant disease.Biopesticide technologies will be tested as soil and/or foliar applications, and as seed treatments. The bioassays will be conducted in the lab, growth room and greenhouse to support optimization of fermentation of biocontrol organisms and formulation development, and to support regulatory data requirements.Support the determination of the biocontrol mode of action (direct and indirect) of candidate biopesticides. Contribute to writing of patents, grants and collaborative research agreements.Maintain an accurate and up-to-date, witnessed written account of experimental protocols and results.Participate in research and development project teams and collaborate across other technical disciplines. Desired Skills and Experience Ph.D. (or equivalent experience) in Plant Pathology or related discipline with 5 or more years of relevant applied research experience. In depth knowledge of Plant Pathology. Previous experience in disease control bioassays and pesticide testing is essential.Demonstrated competency in the design of plant assay systems and protocols.Experience in the development of a commercial biopesticide is highly desirable.Knowledge of agricultural product development and US EPA regulatory requirements is a plus.Strong team-working, organizational and time-management skills, as well as good oral and written communication skills, are essential.
