Job Title: Post-Doctoral Research Scientist-CIG Project Job Description: Rodale Institute is seeking a full-time Post-Doctoral Research Scientist/Agricultural Engineer for a 3-year funded USDA Conservation Innovation Grant project investigating and promoting organic no-till practices. The position would work with a collaborative group of scientists at University of Wisconsin and Iowa State University developing innovative tools to reduce tillage and weed pressure, increase yields, and improve soil health in organic systems.  Position includes controlled field trial, on-farm trial, and development of tools to effectively kill winter annual cover crops and control weeds in organic grain crops.  Location: Rodale Institute Experimental Farm, 611 Siegfriedale Road, Kutztown, PA 19530 Responsibilities:Coordinate day to day operations of research trial including but not limited to: field operations – tillage, planting, crop maintenance, harvesting, crop data collection, soil sampling, insect monitoring etc. Laboratory operations sample preparation, sample analysis, and working knowledge of general laboratory protocols.Make modifications and adjustments to no-till grain crop seeders to improve efficiency, cover crop termination, weed control, and seed emergence.Conduct on-farm field days for regional organic farmers or farmers considering transition to regenerative organic management.Work with the Research, Farm Operations, and Communications teams to create outreach and education publications, including but not limited to bulletins, fact sheets, and newspaper and web articles.Assist in developing an outreach and education, peer-to-peer, extension network for farmers and ranchers.Develop collaborative and productive relationships with internal and external partners.Drive innovation in organic systems management.Oversee the timely execution of grant funded projects, including budget management, timeline management, and instructions for field and lab technicians.Analyze and interpret scientific data and publish in peer-reviewed scientific journals.Conduct workshops and presentations at the Rodale Institute and worldwide.Work with Grants Manager to submit grant proposals for additional funding for research, education, and outreach activities. Qualifications:  Minimum of four years in field crop and/or laboratory research experience and familiarity with field crop production in the northeast and/or mid-Atlantic region.Attention to detail and ability to develop and maintain high quality records and other documentation.Skills in working, collaborating, and communicating in a team environment with individuals of diverse backgrounds.Ability to prioritize multiple activities.Excellent organization skills with demonstrated written and oral skills for communicating technical information to growers and extension personnel.Strong background in statistical analysis of field trial results.Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals. Education:Doctorate degree in Agricultural or Biological Engineering, Crop, and/or Soil Science. Travel:Some travel is required. Other Rodale Institute Expectations: To be trustful and respectful to all staff and visitors. Position Type: Full Time: 40 + hours/week To Apply: Please click “Apply to this Position” and submit your resume and cover letter.
