Precision Conservation Specialist
?Position Announcement: Precision Conservation Specialist?Precision Conservation Management (PCM) is a service program for farmers led by the Illinois Corn Growers Association in partnership with IL Soil and Water Conservation Districts and over 25 other conservation leaders.? The mission of PCM is to increase conservation adoption using precision agriculture technology and farm business management principles.? The Precision Conservation Specialist will provide technical assistance to enrolled cooperators in the Precision Conservation Management program.??The Precision Conservation Specialist will work to educate cooperators about water quality initiatives and the IL Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy.? This person will be responsible for helping farmers in Livingston, McLean, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties secure financial and technical assistance to adopt more conservation practices and/or expand their use of conservation practices.? PCM Specialists present participating farmers with customized reports summarizing the sustainability and financial impacts of their current farming operation and generating environmental and financial comparisons with other farming practices.??Qualifications:A Bachelor's degree in agricuture or natural resources is required.A Minimum of two years of experience in the field is required.Strong interest in and knowledge of agricultural practices, conservation practices, and water quality issues/concerns related to agriculture.Physically able to work safely under adverse environmental conditions such as climbing in and out of ditches and walking long distances through trees and underbrush to collect water and soil samples.Must?have and maintain a valid driver?s license, reliable personal vehicle, proof of insurance, and a satisfactory driving record.Must pass a United States Department of Agriculture background check.?What we are looking for:A strong and effective communicator, both written and verbalExcellent interpersonal skills, including ability to work with farmers and manage professional relationships.Proven ability to work independently as well as in a team environmentAbility to prioritize a heavy and varied workload, deliver results on a timeline, and provide reports of daily and weekly activities/achievementsWilling to travel extensively within the 4-county area to meet farmers at their homes, shops, or fields.Proficient?with basic computer softwareSelf motivated.?How to Apply: Letters of application must be received by Friday, September 14th, 2018 for consideration.
