Principal Product Developer – Bakery
Position Purpose & SummaryThe Principal Product Developer – Bakery has overall accountability for delivering against oils and shortenings innovation goals for Global Edible Oil Solutions (GEOS) focused on the global bakery category. The Principal Product Developer – Bakery provides the technical thought leadership for ideation and identifies and implements the technical solutions against the innovation strategy. Responsibilities include development & execution of all aspects of the technical plan to achieve new product growth objectives. Other responsibilities include coordination with Intellectual Asset Management Team to develop and execute against the intellectual property strategy. Role also is responsible for maintaining strategic technical partnerships, including external technology providers, and internal global technology partnerships such as IMN (Ingredient, Materials and Nutrition), technology vendors and industry groups. The position includes customer interaction responsibilities.Principal Accountabilities50% – Technical Leadership – Supports development of and owns execution against the global bakery strategy. Translates the strategy into action plans through identification and implementation of technical solutions to drive new product development. Responsible for all technical aspects of the product development life cycle from ideation/concept, bench & pilot scale testing, commercialization and validation along with development and coordination of the intellectual property strategy. Supports work as needed through hands on experimentation. Leads teams that conduct development activities for identified initiatives and works across functions to move these to commercialization. Drives search & reapply activities across the globe.25% – Technology Partnerships – Ensures the foundational technical knowledge is in place to support global bakery strategy initiatives. Identifies technical knowledge gaps and leverages internal and external technology partnerships to ensure successful execution against projects. Identifies and manages foundational research projects with IMN (Ingredient, Materials and Nutrition) and other technology partners ensuring scope, progress and relevancy is tracking. Drives global technology scanning activites, actively seeking/exploring external distruptive and enabling tehcnologies that can drive differentiation in the portfolio. Engages both internal and external partners including technology vendors and industry groups.. Ensures appropriate protection of Cargill intellectual property.25% – Customer Interface – Works with technical serice partners to identify customer needs and translate these into new product development opportunities. Works with technical service partners to identify targeted customer opportunities for new products and deploy the products to those customers in order to achieve business growth.Skills:Required Qualifications Bachelor of Science Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related fieldKnowledge of bakery products, ingredients and processes10 or more years food industry experience in Product Development, Technical Service or Process Engineering Knowledge of food oils formulations, processing and applicationsProject management skillsAbility to pull together diverse, cross functional teams to solve problems and pursue opportunities Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related field15 or more years R&D Food Industry experience 5 or more years R&D food industry experience in product development focused on application of oils formulations, and processing for bakery applicationsExperience conducting work in a manufacturing environment Other relevant information to the positionMultiple career opportunities from this role including advancement across FIBI R&D or or within IMN, Applications or Engineering R&D.
