Principal Research Scientist- Enzyme

Our worldwide headquarters and research facilities are in Greenfield, Indiana.Responsibilities:Successful candidate will contribute leadership and technical expertise needed for the development of novel enzymes and enzyme producing strains to be sold into the animal feed market. ?Also important are skills needed to help identify new technologies for potential in-licensing or acquisitions and the collaborative skills needed to help develop and register ?novel global animal health products in the area of novel enzymes/novel microbials. This position will be focused initially on developing production-ready microorganisms using Elanco?s unique platform technology for enzyme production through fermentation of engineered Paenibacillus lentus strains. ?As well as efficiently building strains for specific outcomes, serious contributions to the overall general utility of Paenibacillus lentus for enzyme production through building molecular biology research tools, ?useful host genetic background changes and general understanding about microbial biochemistry.It is expected that this individual will deliver multifaceted outcomes through strong teamwork at the Gaithersburg laboratories, and by building a network of collaborators, consultants and TPO?s/CRO?s. ?Responsibilities include working within the Elanco organization to determine priorities, strategic interests, and the identification of opportunities to meet high value unmet needs of our industry. ?This will include collaborating closely with a broad cross section of colleagues including from New Products Planning, Global Marketing, Manufacturing, Regulatory, Legal, Product Development, Acquisitions, and Business DevelopmentKey Objectives/Deliverables:?Provide technical expertise and sound scientific approach for developing enzyme ?production technology, product effectiveness, safety, manufacturability, market value, mechanism of action, ?intellectual property rights. ?Contribute to product development and registration study designs.Provide technical expertise and leadership towards the identification and evaluation of new technology opportunities and contract research facilities/partners. ?Development of strategic alliances with CRO?s/TPO?s and external partners that will enhance the efficiency in execution of technology reviews and product evaluations/registrations. ?Work with Elanco/Lilly quality organizations to be compliant with Elanco policies and industry regulations.Deliver high quality technology reviews, reports, recommendation to Research Management on whether or not to invest in a given technology as well as communication of outcomes to Third Party Organizations (TPO).Demonstrate wide networking and partnering ability both internally and externally. ?Coordinate and leverage external partners and/or consultants when needed. ?Effectively communicate and collaborate with customers as needed.Effectively work/interact with peers within the enzyme team and other Elanco groups.Critical participant in meetings that drive strategy and outcomes.Demonstrate vision and apply knowledge/expertise in a manner that influences direction/decisions internally and externallyBasic Qualifications:?? ?Ph.D degree7 years research experience in microbial genetics or molecular biologyAdditional Skills/Preferences:?? ?Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsAn exceptional scientist with a good record of accomplishments and problem solvingExpertise with the latest methods of molecular biology and genetics, and synthetic biologyKnowledge of genomics and or proteomics softwareKnowledge in high throughput screeningKnowledge in enzymology, biochemistry, and immunology?Understanding of the fermentation industry, market needs and potential market valueUnderstanding animal production industries and problemsKnowledge of uses for enzymes and other additivesExperience interacting with Third Party Organizations and Contract Research OrganizationsExpertise in genomics, proteomics,Expertise with microbial genetics and microbiologyKnowledge in fermentation technologyKnowledge in downstream protein/enzyme processingKnowledge in protein product formulationExpertise in immunology, particularly in GIT and interaction with nutrition and growthUnderstanding of animal disease and nutrition interactionsProject Management experienceAdditional Information:?? ?Domestic/International travel (5- 25%) as requiredLilly is an EEO/Affirmative Action Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, protected veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status. ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ???Removal Date: 18-Dec-2016Apply for this job.
