In addition, Zoetis will never ask candidates to make any type of personal financial investment related to gaining employment with Zoetis.Principal Scientist/Senior Principal Scientist – Pain and Inflammation Therapeutic Area Expert The Zoetis Global Therapeutics Research area is seeking an innovative and highly motivated expert in pain and inflammation to contribute to our research efforts at Zoetis. This position will focus on drug discovery efforts that include 1) developing strategies that contribute toward the understanding of pathways involved in pain and inflammation in companion animal species (cats, dogs, horses), 2) leading in vitro and in vivo pain and inflammation model development work and 3) leading programs to identify and develop new therapeutic approaches to pain and inflammation. The successful candidate should have at least 5-10 years of relevant experience in drug discovery, Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Responsibilities: * Ability to develop strategies that contribute toward the understanding of pathways involved in pain and inflammation in companion animal species (cats, dogs, horses), target identification and validation, substrate screening, and biomarker implementation. * Experience collaborating across multiple scientific disciplines (bioinformatics, genetics, substrate experts, clinicians, PK/PD modelers, regulatory staff, diagnostic scientists, and marketing experts) to achieve defined goals of the project team.
* Lead in vitro and in vivo model development work in the area of pain and inflammation. * Design appropriate studies in collaboration with team experts to build mechanistic and semi-mechanistic models relating compound effects to relevant biomarkers and outcomes * Ability to effectively communicate results to scientific teams, management and regulatory agencies * Experience in writing research reports, regulatory submissions and responses to inquiries from regulatory agencies EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Educational background: MS, PhD or DVM (pharmacology or related field) or equivalent industry based research experience. * Experience in directing own scientific research, identifying new targets and leading projects. * Experience in establishing in vitro models of disease, in vitro screens and biomarker assays. * Self-starter, able to prioritize work and work efficiently with minimal supervision * Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills * Computer skills required: Microsoft Word, Excel, Spotfire, Outlook
