Peer groups include process and process controls engineers within the group and project engineers within the department.Key Tasks:Provides process engineering support to Operations and optimizes process conditions on a daily basis.Supports process improvement plans for manufacturing including environmental improvements.Discusses technology with Engineering and Operations personnel at other PCS sites. Discusses operating issues with Engineering and Operations personnel at other PCS sites. Models (using Hysis) changes to process to predict effect on Operations.Provides technical support in the design, specification, selection, and operation of equipment.Remains on call for emergency trouble shooting and operations support. Insures all work is done in a safe manner consistent with company, local, state, federal and health, safety and environmental regulations and procedures.Becomes a technical expert in the ammonia, urea and nitric acid processes and participates in all plant process engineering activities.Develops capital improvement projects for budget submittal.Evaluates process equipment and performance, generally with specific direction, by collecting and analyzing data and other information and makes recommendations to improve overall reliability and product quality.Supports a wide variety of complex engineering assignments with appropriate direction, including investigation of problems or opportunities, preparation of design and specifications, performance measurement of projects via economic evaluations, and preparation of AFE’s for submittal to the Engineering Manager.Provides technical assistance in areas of expertise to technical personnel attached to the production unit in the areas of reliability and project engineering.Provides support to evaluate the production unit to discover process/production inefficiencies and problems, safety hazards, and environmental problems and recommends courses of action.Stays abreast of current technologies in process equipment design and operation in an effort to implement such technologies where applicable to improve plant reliability and operations.Has knowledge of day-to-day operations of production unit and keeps informed of operational problems and upsets. Is involved in production unit problem fix-its. Provides assistance to Operations for plant trials of new processes.Informs supervisor on current activities, significant developments and technical problems. Cooperates with Operations in developing projects and designs and solving production problems.Prepares month end production reports and utility consumption reports for financial accounting.Ensures that safety and environmental issues are a consideration of each design and construction project.Ensures compliance with Engineering and Technical Specifications during the design and construction phases of all projects.Develops and submits productivity improvements as assigned (e.g., yield improvements, energy savings, design, and construction cost reductions.)Writes letters and reports incidental to assignments; schedules and conducts meetings with operating, maintenance, and technical personnel.Skills:Strong organizational skillsGood communication An understanding of plant processes and operations along with utilization of engineering knowledgeKnowledge of process chemistry and project economicsEssential Qualifications:BS Chemical Engineering requiredExperience – minimum 1-7 years’ experience (depending on grade level)Preferred Qualifications:1 -5 years’ experience in chemical plant or refinery preferred (depending on grade level)State Professional Engineer License (PE) desirableNutrien is committed to creating an inclusive workplace.
