Position Summary:The Process Engineering and Modeling Manager will be responsible for leading and supervising a team of engineers as they work with a diverse team of scientists to improve upon current production processes, evaluate and develop new processes, model costs associated with these processes and assist with the transfer of new processes to commercial production.
This position will be expected to work across various groups including vendors, contractors, operations, business development and R&D. Job Responsibilities: Supervise and lead engineers, scientists and technicians who design processes and oversee production and quality control of pilot plant process development as neededConduct engineering studies and recommend technology choices for industrial chemical and advance biofuels process flow sheetProvide leadership in developing technology playbooks and transferring technology to productionParticipate in the research and development of new products and procedures destined for Development Products.Oversee, Mass Balance, Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Piping and Instrument Diagram (P&ID) developmentHire, train, and mentor other engineers and supporting staffWrite performance reviews and solve internal issuesDiscuss and lay out project specifications and timelinesReview, approve or modify project designsDevelop/manage high quality cost estimates and budgets and cost models associated with theoretical, proof of concept or pilot processesDraft proposals and reportsCheck technical accuracy of reportsCoordinate activities of group with othersConfer with higher levels of management as appropriate
Job Requirements: Bachelor?s degree or higher in a technical field (Chemistry, Engineering or equivalent)Minimum of seven years of relevant experienceExperience in the development of modeling procedures including working with modeling distillation, heat exchangers, fermentation processes, hydrogenations and separation and purification processes such as ion exchange, and various simulated moving bed processes is required.
In addition, experience with other downstream processing operations including crystallization, distillation, membrane filtration, etc. is highly desirable.Strong leadership and technical background with engineering projectsMust be able to lead teams in a matrix environmentWorking knowledge of fermentation, catalysis, separation and chemical process principalsKnowledge of relevant regulatory codes (Boiler, Pressure Vessel, OSHA, etc.) is a positiveGood working knowledge of applicable software (Aspen, PI, Office, AutoCad etc.)Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsStrong working knowledge of oilseed and corn processing is desiredStrong commitment to safety is requiredMechanical aptitude, problem solving skills and indepe
