Product Manager – Plant Nutrition

The Product Manager will be responsible for the creation, development and implementation of product plans and strategies including pricing, positioning and marketing strategies for products within the defined product line.  He/She will be accountable for the P&L for the product line globally consistent with the objectives of Plant Nutrition and the company.  He/She will provide leadership working with the sales, marketing, research and development, equipment and production teams in the development of the product strategic plan which will provide overall direction to these teams for action plans and budgets.  Direct responsibilities include coordinating and reporting on the implementation of the product strategic plan, product pricing, maintenance of global and national customer accounts, and product campaign development and coordination.   He/she will be interfacing with sales, agronomy, marketing, operations, equipment, customer care and various corporate functions. This role will drive sales growth of the product line to new and existing customers globally.    Achieving the overall objectives will require creativity and innovation to define and execute a global product line strategy based on value-add rather than traditional commodity based sales.    Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:  (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)Develop strategic product plans for the products within the defined product line that meet the sales objectives of Plant Nutrition and the company.Ensure overall P&L management including achievement of price, margin, volume, revenue, and expense targetsProvide support to the sales team globally to achieve growth targetsWork closely with research/sales personnel, industry contacts and Compass Minerals personnel to accurately assess market conditions and identify new product opportunitiesWork closely with the sales and agronomy teams to validate product performance on key crops and geographies ,for both new and old and products, with field trials designed to strengthen overall sales and marketing messagesProvide financial analysis for the product line, including current, new and potential product portfolio that will optimize the product line performance.Identify and implement new promotional tactics to create awarenessManage inventories of products to regional targetsProvide market intelligence with regard to competitor pricing, programs, marketing, promotion and productsLead the development of product training for customers and sales teamsAssist with the development of the annual marketing plan and budget to ensure:.Campaigns and Media plan fit the product strategyRelevant sales support materials are available to customers and sales staffProduct positioning in the Global marketplace is consistent with the product strategic planSales team has the necessary technical expertise to enable them to sell the product including printed and electronic promotional material, product training and relevant research papersResponsible for preparing product forecasts, and inventory monitoring to support the monthly Supply Operations, and Inventory Planning processWork effectively and cooperatively with peers and colleagues in Sales & Marketing, Customer Service, Equipment, Production,  and other Corporate functions.Actively engage in appropriate industry associations and trade shows as required Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Education and Experience:                              Bachelor’s Degree in an agricultural related field  or equivalent education and experience; Masters or MBA preferred.  Minimum of 5 years ag sales, agronomy, ag marketing and ag business management experience in the micronutrient space.  Experience in leading a team and a career history of consistently achieving challenging sales targets. Necessary skill sets:Collaborative leadership style, with strong focus on creating value and focusing on results.Expertise in micronutrient and plant nutrition product management, marketing and sales.   Strong understanding of crop production, plant nutrition, and agronomy.Understanding of financial statements, key drivers of revenue and costs, margin managementStrategic thinking, planning and execution skills.Clear and effective decision makingDemonstrated ability to communicate and share results with MS PowerPoint using charts, graphs, and summarizing data.Ability to influence, motivate and develop personnel.Superior customer facing interactions, including ability to influence both external and internal stakeholders.Strong selling skills and demonstrated effectiveness in value add sales and marketing.Problem solving skills to identify complex drivers and potential solutions. Travel:Significant travel (about 50%) and as required for internal and external meetings and conferences. Competency                                                                       To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: Computer Skills – PC proficient and ability to quickly master new. These specific abilities may or may not be required for this particular position. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations.  Superior ability to extract data from systems to write reports, business correspondences and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Mathematical Skills: The abilities listed are representative of the level of competency the incumbent needs in order to effectively perform the essential duties. These specific abilities may or may not be required for this particular position. Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Reasoning Ability: The abilities listed are representative of the level of competency the incumbent needs in order to effectively perform the essential duties.
