We are seeking a talented and experienced animal scientist to join our efforts and contribute to all phases (conceptualization, study design, execution and reporting) of the discovery process for swine and cattle performance. The successful candidate will lead teams and investigations that span a broad range of experimental modalities. The successful applicant will possesses strong interpersonal, communication and project management skills, and is expected to coordinate and lead a multidisciplinary research program that includes scientists in molecular biology, animal genetics, biotherapeutics, biometrics and clinical sciences, and serve as a key liaison with other key partners in production, marketing and sales. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:* Serve as project team leader for livestock wellness and performance projects* Serve as champion, biology lead and in-life phase clinical monitor for livestock and laboratory species* Develop new animal models/surrogate endpoints* Prepare Animal Use Protocols* Collaborate across multiple scientific disciplines* Source, place and execute studies internally and externally with contract research organizations* Initiate required legal and financial documents for research activities* Data entry, verification and handling, record keeping, in accordance with scientific protocol and applicable Standard Operating Procedures* Contribute to development of product profiles with Commercial colleagues EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* Educational background: MS (Animal Science or related area) and at least 10 years animal research experience, or PhD, DVM (or equivalent) in Animal Science or related area and 3-5 yrs experience* Direct experience conducting livestock animal studies including all aspects of design, execution and interpretation, reporting and the establishment of new animal models* Training and direct experience in livestock biology, with particular emphases in dairy cattle or swine.* Direct experience with molecular-based technologies used to identify and validate relevant molecular targets, including genetics, epigenetics, functional genomics, bioinformatics and nutrition would be helpful* Direct experience with new target discovery and validation, including network analysis and the reduction of global observation data into testable hypotheses would be ideal ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:* Work environment: The person filling this position will work with farm technical staff and animal scientists.
