R&D Specialist II
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, R&D Specialist II, are to:
Work with the screening team to develop, set-up and score in vitro and in planta insect bioassays, specifically against hemipteran pests and lepidopteran pests;
Develop new assays and improve the quality and the throughput of existing ones;
Maintain insect colonies, improve efficiency and streamline insect rearing procedures;
Facilitate and promote the use of robotic machines with the screening team to increase assay throughput;
Present results obtained at relevant meetings;
Prepare adequate reports and communicate with lab manager, group leaders and/or project leader on a regular basis;
Train and supervise other team members in specific activities;
Complement, when necessary, team members in planning and executing assays;
Manage confidentiality of competitive know-how;
Archive information properly including notebook keeping, shared spreadsheets and any other relevant database;
Follow all QHSE, Biosafety and USDA/APHIS/PPQ requirements.
WHO YOU ARE
Your success will be driven by your demonstration of our LIFE values. More specifically related to this position, Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
B.S. degree in Biology, Entomology or related disciplines with a minimum oftwo (2) years ofexperience working in industry; or
Non-degreed with minimum eight (8) years of relevant experience in academic or industrial laboratory environment;
Demonstrated experience with the major insect pests of key agricultural crops (i.e. corn, soybean, cotton, wheat, etc.);
Proficient computer skills (Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
Excellent organizational and record keeping skills;
High attention to detail;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a member of a multidisciplinary research team;
Ability and motivation to learn new techniques;
Strong creative and flexible thinking;
Ability to work with live insects, nematodes and bacteria;
Basic microbiology knowledge.
Experience with hemipteran pest;
Experience with protein-based bioassays and rearing techniques;
Ability to design, implement and analyze experiments;
Basic knowledge of biochemistry, molecular biology and microbiology;
Ability to develop and improve assays.
