Technician II ? Decatur, ILFermentation Development and Bioprocess SupportThis is a non-exempt, full time position Position Summary:This position is in the Fermentation Process Development and Production Support Group, within the Research division, of Archer Daniels Midland Company. The group is focused on developing novel fermentation processes, products and scale-up, as well as, optimization and troubleshooting of current fermentation processes. The research work covers multiple areas, including bacterial and fungal fermentations, aerobic and anaerobic processes, traditional stirred tank fermentations and new engineering concepts applied to fermentation processes. The successful candidate will be a leader in the developing new products through fermentation and will use an innovative approach to optimizing existing processes.
Job Responsibilities: Operate 7.5 Liter benchtop fermenters to screen strains, optimize media or fermentation conditions, and develop new products Follow SOPsRead and understand fermentation protocolsRecord and analyze data with accuracy and efficiencyTear down, clean and perform maintenance on the bench top fermenters and ancillary equipmentDeliver weekly progress reports to project leader Read industrial biotechnology, fermentation, technology publications
Research, develop and present new methods and emerging technologies in fermentation to Technical Leadership TeamPromote new ideasCollaborate with project leader and team membersFollow monthly project schedule; meet deadlines
Work in an aseptic manner and maintain a clean work space Job Requirements: Bachelor?s Degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Microbiology or related field or a minimum of five years of fermentation experienceKnowledge of microbial metabolism and physiology and the ability to apply this knowledge in the development of new fermentation systems Experience in bench top fermenter operationsKnowledge of fermentation principles, medium development, process design and scale upGeneral understanding of mathematics and chemistry, with the ability to calculate solution concentrations, molarity, yield, productivity
