Research Assistant – IPM
DuPont Pioneer has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Waimea Research Center. The Agronomy Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting the agronomy efforts of the Waimea Research Center with primary focus on agronomic activities necessary to reliably produce high quality seed for the research organization. The Research Assistant will specifically support the Integrated Pest Management activities in the department. It is expected that the research assistant will maintain sprayers under optimum conditions for effective and safe spraying. The Research Assistant should operate spraying equipment and should be responsible for worker protection standards (WPS) postings. Ensure the proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment) at all times and that label directions are consistently followed. The Research Assistant should keep records of chemical use and machine use hours as well as keep record of daily activities as instructed in the protocols. The Research Assistant will serve as a backup for netting, land planning and irrigation. Come grow your career with DuPont Pioneer! Key Duties/Responsibilities:Perform activities related to the Integrated Pest Management program: Operate spraying machines; Scouting, Hand Weeding, Backpack applicationsTrain new sprayer drivers; perform WPS postings on central notification and at field level: apply chemicals based on label indications. Maintain chemical inventory and an orderly pesticide storage room. Communicate with supervisor on spraying activities. Perform sprayer equipment cleaning following established protocols, and comply with all regulations and utilize guidance of Environmental Protection Agency and Hawaii Department of Agriculture. Conduct all activities in a safe and legal manner. Maintain all equipment in proper and safe working condition. Utilize PPE and make certain that the PPE is used in compliance with chemical labels. Ensure certain chemicals are applied in accordance with chemical labels.Participate in improvement programs (safety, efficiency, effectiveness) specific to field, to identify and communicate potential risks and benefits.Promotes a positive work attitude and cultivates harmonious relations.Miscellaneous tasks as assigned by supervisor.Job and position descriptions may change at any time Qualifications:The following are required:High School Diploma or GED1 to 2 years of related experience in Agriculture or OperationsTime management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Strong organizational skills and strong work habits to encourage and facilitate accuracy and quality results.Ability to plan ahead, anticipate needs and events, and coordinate multiple activities occurring concurrently and simultaneously. Takes initiative and ability to work on own with minimal direction. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to carry out tasks in the absence of supervision. Ability to communicate, read, and interpret instructions in English and carry out tasks in the absence of supervision.Proficient in the use of computers with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of tablets.Ability to work with others in a team setting and of diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.Tolerance and ability to work in an outdoor tropical agriculture setting in various field conditions.Heavy equipment operating experience.Valid driver???s license is required.Class 4 driver license or the ability to obtain one in 6 months is required.Flexibility to work weekends and/or holidays during seasonal peaks.Occasionally required to lift 20 to 40 lbs.
