Research Assistant -Irrigation
DuPont Pioneer has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Waimea Research Center. The Research Assistant will be responsible for irrigation and fertilization activities, executing the irrigation schedule, data collection, assembling irrigation system, providing additional assistance to priority plots, and fertigation application. The Research Assistant must be proficient in the Pioneer farm irrigation systems and be able to make necessary repairs. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for scout fields for nutritional deficiencies and take detailed notes and data. The Research Assistant will serve as a backup for IPM, land planning and netting area. Come grow your career with DuPont Pioneer! Key Duties/Responsibilities: The Research Assistant will be responsibility for executing irrigation activities including but not limited to: irrigation system assembling, irrigating according to schedule and fertigation, keep track of irrigation schedule, valves and pipes repair and maintenance.
Identification and monitoring fields for drought stress symptoms and nutritional deficiencies.
Maintain cleanliness of fields and keep free of weeds the risers and areas close to irrigation equipment Manage irrigation system installed at Pioneer farm facilities Record notes and data and enter data into the agronomy database. Participate in process improvement projects and initiatives. Develop, update, and follow written instructions and protocols. Repair and maintenance of irrigation systems and equipment. Timely reporting of needed equipment repairs and maintenance. Maintain clean and organized irrigation part supplies and fertilization storage areas. Monitor and maintain fertilization tanks in optimum conditions.
Coordinate irrigation execution with cultivation, sampling, etc. to prevent interferences with other operations.
Monitor, maintain and execute decisions on closing valves while complying with the irrigation schedule.
May support other agronomy areas such as field scouting, planting and IPM, planting and cultivating, Perform activities necessary for producing crops including: land preparation, maintenance of agricultural machinery.
May provide training and limited supervision of employees and seasonal temporary labor. Participate in team meetings. Adhere to all location and company policies and procedures. Other duties as assigned. Job and position descriptions may change at any timeQualifications: The following are required:
High School Diploma or GED 1 to 2 years of related experience in Agriculture or Operations Basic Math skills. Time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
Strong organizational skills and strong work habits to encourage and facilitate accuracy and quality results. Ability to plan ahead, anticipate needs and events, and coordinate multiple activities occurring concurrently and simultaneously.
Takes initiative and ability to work on own with minimal direction.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to carry out tasks in the absence of supervision. Ability to communicate, read, and interpret instructions in English and carry out tasks in the absence of supervision. Proficient in the use of computers with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of tablets. Ability to work with others in a team setting and of diverse cultural backgrounds and languages. Tolerance and ability to work in an outdoor tropical agriculture setting in various field conditions. Heavy equipment operating experience. Valid driver???s license is required. Class 4 driver license or the ability to obtain one in 6 months is required. Flexibility to work weekends and/or holidays during seasonal peaks. Occasionally required to lift 20 to 40 lbs. The following are preferred:
