Research Assistant – Netting
DuPont Pioneer has an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant to join our Waimea Research Center. The Research Assistant will be responsible for supporting the agronomy efforts of the Waimea Research Center with primary focus on agronomic activities necessary to reliably produce high quality seed for the research organization. The Research Assistant will mainly support crop protection (netting retrieval and covering) and the planting process and will be a backup employee for irrigation and integrated pest management (IPM) activities within the agronomy department. Key Duties/Responsibilities:Perform activities necessary for producing crops including but not limited to: crop protection procedures; weed control; crop management ??? planting, cultivating, field scouting, spraying and harvesting; irrigation ??? system hooking up and installation.Operate tractor and ATVLead and/or supervise crew when designatedMaintain all equipment in proper and safe working conditionCommunication: Provide input to agronomy Research Associates and assist in short term planning related with field execution. Support all Integrated Pest Management (IPM), planting and irrigation activities: weed control – hand weeding, insect control – ear injections, data entry in the agronomy database, assist with WPS posting requirements, cleaning equipment, replacing nozzles, pesticide storage room maintenance. Follow all company policies and procedures and adhere to regulatory requirements.Maintain and operate all equipment in proper and safe working condition. Ensure PPE is used in compliance with labels. Ensure compliance in all operations. Complete personal development activities as part of a performance management and development plan.Participate in improvement programs (safety, efficiency, effectiveness) specific to field environments, to identify and communicate potential risks and benefits.Promotes a positive work attitude and cultivates harmonious relations.Other duties as assigned.Adhere to all location and company policies and procedures.Other duties as assigned.Job and position descriptions may change at any timeQualifications:The following are required:High School Diploma or GED1 to 2 years of related experience in Agriculture or OperationsTime management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Strong organizational skills and strong work habits to encourage and facilitate accuracy and quality results.Ability to plan ahead, anticipate needs and events, and coordinate multiple activities occurring concurrently and simultaneously. Takes initiative and ability to work on own with minimal direction. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to carry out tasks in the absence of supervision. Ability to communicate, read, and interpret instructions in English and carry out tasks in the absence of supervision.Proficient in the use of computers with basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficient in the use of tablets.Ability to work with others in a team setting and of diverse cultural backgrounds and languages.Tolerance and ability to work in an outdoor tropical agriculture setting in various field conditions.Heavy equipment operating experience.Valid driver???s license is required.Class 4 driver license or the ability to obtain one in 6 months is required.Flexibility to work weekends and/or holidays during seasonal peaks.Occasionally required to lift 20 to 40 lbs.
