We are seeking a highly motivated Field Research Associate to work as a member of our Carrot Breeding Team focused on variety development and based in Payette, Idaho. The role supports and participates in all operations related to field trials and seed production, including seed preparation, field plot management, and data collection. This is a unique opportunity to work with leading technology and talented research scientists seeking to deliver the best in vegetable crop genetics. Responsibilities include:Oversee work in different field operations, including planting, handling pollinating insects, collecting data and harvestingProvide leadership for day-to-day nursery and testing activities such as operation of threshing systems, seed counters, and seed packagingAssist in data collection, data analysis and database management Manage shipping of seed, roots and other testing materialsUtilize research equipment such as plantersPerform safety inspections and assist with providing safety training and guidance to field personnelWork closely with other research sites to keep program operating efficientlyContribute to other projects and perform other duties as requiredQualifications:Required Education and Skills/Experience:Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology or related field of studyMinimum of two years of appropriate work experience within a plant breeding environment (academic or industry)Ability to work extended hours during peak planting, pollinating and harvestFamiliarity with breeding and research methodologiesKnowledge of crop production, farming practices, and farm equipment operation and repairEffective verbal and written communication skillsFamiliarity with Microsoft Word and Excel software Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary/multicultural research teamAbility to travel occasionally (generally up to 10% during the growing season)Bilingual verbally in English/SpanishDesired Education and Skills/Experience:Master's Degree in Agronomy, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, or related field of studyPrior experience in vegetable breedingProficiency in computer applications for Plant Breeding database management and research data analysis Who is Monsanto?
