Monsanto is seeking a highly motivated Research Associate to join a multidisciplinary research team in Galena, MD focused on conducting field trials as a part of our North America Field Testing Organization. These field trials provide critical field performance data to drive development and selection of the best products for our farmer customers. This position is a part of a diverse team including breeders, scientists, agronomists, and engineers all working to deliver the best sustainable agricultural solutions ??? producing more food with less resources. The successful candidate will be able to quickly establish themselves as a team leader through their ability to prioritize effectively, collaborate to get work done, and demonstrate competence in all aspects of plot management. The work will include all aspects of field testing operations and can change and evolve quickly throughout each annual season. Tasks will include leadership in the areas of field selection and preparation, experiment planning, seed preparation, planting, data collection, agronomic management, and harvest. A research associate is also expected to be a leader in establishing partnerships with other Monsanto research teams, as well as cultivating community relationships. Responsibilities include:Provide the highest quality field trial data to our breeders, scientists, and other partners by continuously innovating and driving optimal field trial management Collaborate to design and deliver experiments that are operationally streamlined while providing data that drives good product decisions Operate and maintain cutting edge research equipment – planters, environment and plant monitoring systems, combines, etc Lead day to day decisions on priorities and resource allocations within the team Assist site leadership in driving a strategic vision for the team???s long term goals Supervise and train temporary and seasonal employees Model Monsanto???s commitment to safety, sustainability, and product stewardship Overnight travel during planting and harvest season is possible. Several 2-3 day trips for training and other meetings are likely during the year. Overall travel is 15% of the time, more or less.Qualifications:Required Education/Experience:Bachelor's Degree in Agronomy, Engineering, or related field of studyBroad knowledge of agricultural equipment and row crop production practices Experience taking a leadership role within interdisciplinary teams Demonstrated initiative and implementation of mid and long term strategic goals Passion for and solid knowledge of emerging trends in agriculture Skilled with MS Office and other standard computer and software systems Ability to work extended hours during the peak seasonsAbility to lift up to 40 lbsDesired Education/Experience:Master's Degree in an agriculture related field Experience with seed technology industry and plant breeding Knowledge of precision agriculture Knowledge of/experience with harvest equipmentBackground in statistics and experiment design History of implementation of continuous improvements and new innovations Pesticide applicator license or ability to obtain a pesticide applicator licenseClass A CDL driver's license or ability to obtain a class A CDL driver's license Who is Monsanto?Monsanto is an agriculture company with more than 20,000 employees focused on making a balanced meal accessible to everyone.
