We work in a collaborative and inspiring culture where personal contribution is rewarded and growth and development are at the heart of our culture.About This JobThe purpose of the Research Associate is to provide operational and technical assistance to the supervisor/manager to insure the completion of tasks necessary in the development of improved products.AccountabilitiesPerform planting, crossing, harvesting, and other agronomic operations in the lab and greenhouse necessary to achieve the objectives of the research program.
Effectively use proprietary database software for organizing experiments.
Assist in plant tissue collection and processing according to fixed protocols.
Assist in computer data entry and analysis for project needs.
Function as an integral member of a greenhouse team responsible for delivering quality data and seed to the customers.
Maintain seed inventory while insuring purity and viability in adherence of company specifications.
Organize seed shipments in a timely fashion.
Effectively communicate regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.
Maintain inventory for all necessary supplies.
Responsible for basic routine maintenance of research equipment.
Supervise and instruct seasonal and hourly employees in the accomplishments of these tasks with due consideration for safety and health.
Follow all USDA and EPA compliance regulations and Syngenta Stewardship guidelines.
Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with and in support of all safety related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses and attending local safety meetings.
Other work-related duties specifically needed to achieve the objectives of the research program as assigned by supervisor/manager.Skills:
Essential Knowledge & SkillsKnowledge of general industry procedures, practices, and terminology.
Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect trial data precision and accuracy.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Understanding of Scientific Method to research.
Understanding of basic plant life cycles and agricultural plant production.
Ability to learn and use other research specific equipment communicating with MS Windows systems.
Ability and motivation to learn new technologies.
Knowledge of DNA sequencing analysis tools desirable.
Experience in emasculation, cross-pollination of agricultural crops desirable.QualificationsA degree in a science or agriculture-related discipline Bachelors Degree preferred
2 years of relevant work experience in a professional plant-science research setting.
Knowledge of plant breeding, plant biology, genetics, statistics and agriculture.
Greenhouse management and/or plant production experience
A valid Drivers License
Forklift operators certification or the ability to acquire within 6 months of employment
Ability to use MS Office, especially Word, Excel, Powerpoint and other standard software.
Ability to learn and use proprietary systems SPIRIT and MINT for inventory management.Additional InformationAll applicants must be eligible to work in the US without visa support

Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in lab or greenhouse
