Research Associate

Support the development of Prediction Agriculture infrastructure and technical capabilities as a core function of an Incubator Research Station. Accountable for correct use of experimental protocols defined to execute complex field experiments to support prediction agriculture priorities. Interprets and refines experimental protocols in partnership with other research team members as needed. Ensures collection of critical time sensitive data, as defined in protocols, from experiments deployed across multiple locations using a combination of large temporary labor teams and deployment of sensor technologies. Ensure timely experiment setup, seed preparation, planting and harvest activities, data quality control, data loading into IM systems and delivery of preliminary data analyses from designated experiments. Assembles, analyzes, summarizes and presents initial interpretations of results to research team members. Conducts experiments to completion, according to procedures defined in experimental protocols. Exercises independent judgment and discretion as appropriate to ensure resources are used responsibly to execute data collection as defined in experimental protocols. (60%)Maintains, organizes and summarizes results of experiments, noting problem areas, while recommending actions to be taken to improve experimental protocols. (20%)May hire, train, organize and supervise work of research assistants and/or temporary employees ensuring work is performed in safe and efficient manner. (10%)Inspects and performs routine maintenance on equipment used to conduct experiments at the designated work location. (10%)Other duties (10-20%):May be requested to assist in conducting experiments at other Research sites, laboratory areas, or groups.May be requested to maintain appropriate inventory of chemicals and/or supplies necessary for the completion of experiments at work location.May travel to other locations within N.A. or internationally to support data collection. Qualifications:Appropriate agricultural degree with 2-4 years experience in related field or equivalent level of relevant education and experience.Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as math and computer skills.Broad practical grounding and understanding in field plot experimental techniques associated with agronomy and plant breeding.May require to do physical lifting and work in varying ergonomic environments.Ability to operate and troubleshoot agriculture equipment and electronic devices used for agricultural data collection (for instance, proximal and remote sensing). GIS skills desirable.
