We are committed to rescuing land from degradation, enhancing biodiversity and revitalizing rural communities.About this Job:Provide the highest quality field trial data to support local trialing efforts to create superior products and support the Station Managers targeted goals by continuously innovating and driving optimal field trial management.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Functioning as an integral member of a team responsible for packaging, planting, cultivating, note taking and harvesting corn yield trials and breeding nurseries.
Lead the operation and maintenance of agricultural machinery, and or agricultural research equipment.
Supporting efforts to maintain integrity of seed inventory, packaging, field layout, pollinating, harvest of plots and data collection.
Performing all tasks and behaving in a manner compliant with, and in support of, all safety and stewardship related company policies and practices, including completing all required company training courses.
Leading tasks completed by third-party contract labor to achieve desired results.
Effectively communicating regularly with peers and supervisors regarding the status of projects and work activities.
Supervisory responsibility for contract labor in the field.Skills:
Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in an agricultural related discipline and/or relevant experience preferred.
Experience with precision agriculture equipment and software systems.
A basic understanding of plant genetics and breeding is desirable.
Clear understanding of the practices and procedures that affect trial data precision and accuracy.
Understand and use of modern agronomic practices.
Demonstrated outstanding communication skills. A valid drivers license with an acceptable drivers history and the ability to obtain a class A CDL, and Chemical Applicators License within 3 – 6 months of hire date.
Experience working with interdisciplinary teams.
Demonstrated initiative and implementation of specific, measurable performance objectives.
Ability to use and support proprietary IT systems and MS Office, especially Word, Excel, Power Point and other standard office software.Additional Knowledge, Skills, Traits & Abilities:
Familiarity with seed technology industry and plant breeding methodologies.
Experience with precision agriculture equipment and software systems.
Knowledge of best practices in agronomic management.
History of implementation of continuous improvements and new innovations.
Must be able to work independently and may travel to off-site locations to accurately collect and manage data obtained from trials.
Plant, maintain and harvest crop trials to meet deadlines.
Coordinate and manage workload to complete objectives and tasks with very tight deadlines.
Must be detail oriented, and drive attention to accuracy. Along with the ability to continually improve a process.Working Conditions and Working Demands:
Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse.
Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season.
Field, greenhouse, laboratory, warehouse, and office.
Domestic travel required with occasional overnight stays.
Stays at off-season production/nursery locations may extend to two to three weeks.
