Research Associate, IMPACT
JOB PURPOSE Support all aspects of research and IMPACT (Intensively Managed Product Advancement, Characterization and Training) yield plot and disease observation experiments at the Kinston Research Center. This includes seed filling, equipment maintenance and transport, planting, plot maintenance, data collection, and harvesting of corn and soybean test plots. Tasks will include support of the planning and management of yield and disease observation locations, supervision of temporary employees, checking data quality, equipment maintenance, and other tasks related to the management of research test plots. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assist with IMPACT testing by working with the Research Ops Lead and IMPACT SRA Lead to identify locations/cooperators, set up experiments, communicate with field contacts for corn and soybean testing sites for plot maintenance, prepare and sort seed packets into planting order, plant plots, take appropriate and assigned notes, monitor plots for data quality issues, and assist with harvest of plots, according to specific procedures. (approx. 40%-50%) 2. Assist with management of research corn and soybean yield testing and observation experiments and equipment maintenance. This includes, but not limited to, ensuring equipment, land, and seed preparation occurs efficiently and safely prior to planting season. Provide assistance with general agronomic practices, herbicide application, irrigation, crop scouting, and other general plot maintenance activities. Complete all data collection, note taking, and harvest processes in a timely, efficient, and safe manner. Stay current on implementation of new technologies, computer skills and experimental design and analysis. Use Pioneer proprietary software for initiation, mapping, trackiApply for this job.
