In business since 1983, RD4AG is one of the leading CRO's in agri-products testing in a broad range of crops. As a contract research organization, we are partners in research and innovation with each one of our client companies in the assessment and regulatory aspects involved in developing exciting new technologies to further the success of agriculture in providing food and fiber. In the field, under real world conditions, we generate data for products and systems such as fertilizers, organic and conventional pesticides, growth enhancers, conventional and biotech seed and plant varieties, irrigation, equipment, farming systems, and more. Between our operations in the low desert of Arizona and the high plains of Montana we conduct field studies in over 75 different crops. About the job: The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and conduct contracted field research projects. Following clients' protocols the biologist will set up field trials and execute the variables, which may involve making pesticide or fertilizer applications, collecting samples, evaluating plant variables or pests, and organizing and reporting data. As a part of a dynamic field team the biologist will participate in planting, growing and harvesting crops, configure and maintain research and farming equipment, and maintain the research facility. Position will be based in Yuma, Arizona. Qualifications desired:Minimum of a BS in a field of agricultural science (agronomy, entomology, etc) with five or more years of experience in performing small plot or applied field agricultural research. Experience with EPA GLP and/or USDA biotech regulations highly desired.Candidates should have familiarity with field trial designs, small plot and commercial sprayer calibration and application techniques, general laboratory equipment operation, pest identification skills, and operation of farm equipment and irrigation systems.Excellent written and spoken English skills mandatory, and experience with writing research reports, and client communication desirable. Spanish skills a plus.Working knowledge of computer software such as, Excel and Word is important. Experience with Gylling Data Management’s ARM (Agricultural Research Manager) is a big plus.The successful candidate will be a self starter with an upbeat positive attitude, excellent organizational skills, the ability to set up and maintain schedules for multiple projects, meet deadlines and be responsible for setting priorities and directing others. This is a fast paced working environment with a large amount of variety. This is a field position in the arid southwest. It requires one be able to lift and carry a 50 pound backpack and perform moderately strenuous field activities, including bending down, walking in uneven fields, using a sweep net, climbing up and down ditch banks, on and off equipment, etc. Occasional travel is required.
