Beachwood, OH Wherethe Chemistry Happens The position will be in RCC/PS, focused on Zeolites Scale up andManufacturing support. The specificfocus of the team is to transfer technology from research scale to commercialscales of zeolite-based catalysts for environmental applications, with specificemphasis on diesel emission applications based on research results from Zeoliteresearch team. The key application is selective catalytic reduction (SCR) ofnitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel vehicles. This involves synthesis and modification of zeolitic materials, thepreparation of these zeolites using lab and pilot plant equipment, generatetentative operation procedure to transfer the technology to our plants andsupport manufacturing trials. The teamalso works closely with groups in RCC/E in the development of new catalysts andpreparation of pilot scale custom samples. This is an excellentopportunity to demonstrate your ability to conduct research, with some degreeof independence, in applied materials research aimed at the development ofnovel catalytic materials. Extensiveknowledge of current state of the art in zeolite chemistry is critical and willbe applied in developing targeted research projects. Upon successful completionof research, you will be expected to transfer the technology to our plants. Youwill analyze, validate and report laboratory data generated as a result ofplant trials, studies, etc. to assist in providing troubleshootingrecommendations for new and existing processes. You will be expected to havestrong communications skills, both written and oral, for impactful presentationof research results and new project proposals. You will also demonstrate stronginterpersonal skills, which are critical for collaboration with other fellowresearchers and business/manufacturing people within the corporation, as wellas supervision of lab technicians. Formula for SuccessWorkingsuccessfully in collaboration with others, you will conduct project planningand target setting in close collaboration with your supervisor and other teammembers. You will also submit inventionrecords based on new experimental findings and work with Legal on thepreparation of patent applications.Leveragingyour education in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering combined with your researchexperience in inorganic chemistry specifically focused on synthesis, chemistry,and fundamentals of zeolites and related microporous materials, you will planand execute experiments involving zeolite synthesis using lab and pilot scaleequipment. This involves extensiveexperimentation, and revision of experimental plan based on on-going findings.Yourexperience with pilot plant and commercial production, process troubleshootingand optimization in manufacturing will be essential as you generate tentativeoperation procedure in the technology transfer of existing processes andintroduction of new products to various BASF production plants.Relyingon your strong leadership skills, you will supervise Laboratory Technician(s)to coordinate experimental responsibilities. You will provide appropriate coaching anddevelopment of the technician(s).Demonstratingyour commitment to the protection of our intellectual property, you will keepabreast of the relevant publications in the open literature as well as patentapplications.Yourdemonstrated ability to apply innovative approaches to develop new materialswith desired attributes will serve you well as you generate new ideas andprepare proposals for Creativity projects.Successfullyengaging inside and outside of the organization, you will work closely with andpresent research findings and new proposals to a research team, plant processengineers and R&D management and business group representatives. You willalso collaborate with other team members and other groups for evaluation andcharacterization of experimental samples, as well as idea generation.Utilizingyour familiarity with chemical processing equipment and your education and/or professional experience in process or manufacturingengineering,you will provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to plantProcess Engineers for manufacturing issues.Yourpledge to safety will be a valued asset as you will be actively involved insite safety culture and processes to support 5S, Zero Incident Mindset (ZIM),and Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS). You will lead and support EHS activitiesand processes in lab and pilot plant area and work with process engineers toensure environmental and compliance requirements are met during technologytransfer process.
